About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Recharge, regenerate, replenish. Looking for scenic beauty, laughter and lovingkindness.

ABOUT ME

2/3's of my life has been outside my country of birth (USA). I've been fortunate to have had an interesting career and lots of travel. I've been married, I have kids (growing, not yet grown, but not with me). I wish I had a dog (I can't where I'm staying). I'm liberal/libertarian politically, I wish I could say I'm more spiritual.

PHILOSOPHY

You're lucky if you're not hurting anyone!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to have more interaction with people when I travel, or with CS if they come to where I am. I do a bit of volunteer work, just to get out, but otherwise the days seem to be flying by.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted nearly 20 times. Guest 6 times. So far very good.

Interests

I love beaches and mountains. Walks and bike rides are good, but I try not to overdo it. I'm always reading something. I wish I could cook! I have done a fair bit of sports (tennis, golf, SCUBA diving, skiing, sailing) but things have quieted down. I like R. Crumb (cartoonist), Leonard Cohen (singer), Paul Theroux (author).

Music, Movies, and Books

I went from rock to jazz to blues. I now like world music but, more often than not, I like silence. I like the Coen Brothers movies as well as Woody Allen, Roman Polanski. I was reading about the painter Ivan Allbright, I love his style.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled the length of the Amazon river in 1977. Started in the Ecuadorian Andes, ended up in Belem, Brazil.

I was once treed by a lion in the Serengeti. Along with my wife!

I wandered about Cambodia during the war with the Khmer Rouge.

I climbed Mt. Fuji.

I witnessed the births of both of my daughters.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been an English teacher now and then, and when with the UN I trained refugee and human rights law.
