About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Be an optimist, until proven wrong.
ABOUT ME
Hi there, I am an easy going man from the Netherlands, always curious to meet new people and to learn more about life. I often travel around the world spreading the word of cycling. We are happy hosting fellow cyclists. Note: We don't live in Utrecht or Amsterdam, only request us to host you when you are planning to travel (see couch description) or really want to stay with us.
I am the bicycle guru of Utrecht and part of the System. Every now and then I take a red pill to escape the office where I write bicycle policies and have meetings. We receive visitors from all over the world, to experience our cycling culture and sometimes I am invited to talk abroad about my work and passion. You can wake me up for crazy bike rides or discussions about sustainability and cycling policies. In case that might sound a bit Grey, my friends like me for my trivia knowledge and my interest in life of others. I am open minded and like to hang out. A good laugh makes my evening, don't want to take life to serious.
I am known for my sense of directions. When you travel with me, you never get lost, the journey is the destination.
PHILOSOPHY
If you don't chose, that is also a choice. So, just make up your mind and don't wait, life is to short to waste.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am started CouchSurfing four year ago, and until now I only had great experiences. I met nice people and viewed the cities with their eyes and memories. Also we hosted some people and shared our ordinary life with totally strangers who became friends. I occasionally show people around in Utrecht or other cities of the Netherlands. CouchSurfing is definitely enriching my life!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In my student years (some years Before Internet) i was hitchhiking with my girlfriend to France and picked up by a priest. We stayed for the night in the palace of the bishop of Amiens.
If CS excisted at that time, we would have used it much more.
Now I have picked up Couch surfing as a way to meet new friends and to see cities from their perspective. And I am happy we can host people who share our values in life.
Interests
I like to ride my bicycles (one at the time) and love to discover cities and nature. Architecture is my second hobby. You can talk with me about development of cities, sustainable transport and stupidity of mankind.
Oh, I drink all kind of beers (not at the same time) and occasionally like to dance at parties.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love live music of any kind.
Opera, speed-metal and everything in between, as long as it is performed with passion.
Reading is not that much on my list, it is not easy to read and cycle at the same time.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Met the King and Queen of Sweden, together with the Dutch King and Queen, and the King's mum.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to maintain your bicycle, I am rather experienced in fixing a tyre. I share my knowledge of cycling, and want to know what are the barriers for people not to cycle.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can fix your bike (or have a try, no guarantee I will succeed).
