About Me

IM NOW ABLE TO HOST! Starting end of November 2018 until mid December, then I’m going home to Toronto for the holidays and I’ll be back in Seattle after the new year! ***** I was born in Shenzhen, China and lived there until I was 6. At that point I immigrated to Canada with my parents and lived there (in Toronto) for 17 years! I recently moved to Seattle on the west coast of the United States for work (good old tech companies). If you ask any of my friends they'll say I have two loves: cats and dance. I love dancing bachata, salsa, hip hop, and hitting up the clubs to just move in some way. I'm not that big of a fan of alcohol though actually... I dance just fine sober. I cry easily... though I laugh just as easily. I'm also extremely sarcastic (which usually doesn't get across the language barrier) and pretty sociable and talkative. I do have to say I'm more of an introvert though, so am always up for listening and just observing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favourite travel moments have always been with local friends.

Visiting my friend's grandparents' farm a few hours out of Bogota, Colombia and eating homemade arequipe con queso; feeling stuffed eating dinner followed by second dinner aka supper in Kuala Lumpur with three friends; the horrifying feeling when bottle service at the rooftop club came out to 50 million dong in Ho Chi Minh...

I don't have friends all over the world (yet), and I'm hoping to make some! Let me get some insight into how you live your daily life and I'll do the same. :)

----------

I currently live in Seattle, WA, USA. I'd love to host if you ever choose to visit the Pacific Northwest (PNW)!

Music, Movies, and Books

Current favourite music: I've been listening to a lot of reggaeton and spanish music in an attempt to learn... it's not working that well. I also like electronic music, and basically any type of music that is dance-able.

Current favourite movies: I love all movies, mainly because I love sitting down and relaxing. Though actually I hate horror and suspense movies and will usually read spoilers ahead of time if I'm forced to watch.

Current favourite books: If I had to pick one, it'd be Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Mainly because of the story around how I picked up that book in my last hostel before going back home in Sucre, Bolivia, after meeting a boy in Cartagena, Colombia where the novel was written...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a bunch of travel stories (as I'm sure we all do), but the most amazing thing I did in recent history was create a picture album of my travels for both sets of grandparents.

I can speak Mandarin, but I can't write Chinese. My grandparents (and the rest of my family save for my parents) are in China and don't speak English. In an effort to show a world where I know they won't be able to go themselves physically, I created a huge photo album and write descriptions of all the pictures in Chinese so they could read and understand it. Took a long time but was totally worth!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: English? Mandarin?! Bachata?!? Working in tech, different types of cats, video game obsessions!
Learn: Spanish? Literally everything else...
Share: Laughs and friendship.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I used to write that I can cook... but why lie to ourselves?!? I can share a sarcastic sense of humour. Amazing dance skills (not really but I love it so much I don't care). Definitely some sort of souvenir or card so you can remember me by... until we meet again. I'm extremely nostalgic too (adding this to my About Me section). Always happy to bring a magnet or too as well!
