Sobre mí

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Coach surfing I think is the best way to truly experience a country as the locals do and therefore get a more authentic experience hanging out with local people that has much more insight that you just cant get from guide books and internet research.

Música, películas y libros

There is a lot of cool movies but the only one that really made a lasting expression on me is "Into the Wild"
Then I love listing to new hip songs and then there is the classics like U2, Kings of Leon, Kongos, Coldplay.

Algo increíble que he hecho

The year was 2012 and I have never been outside of South-Africa's
borders before. I was 20 years old still the holder of a valid child passport that expired mid Jan 2013 giving me about a month left & R800 in my pocket ($80). I just returned from Stellenbosch for the college break and decided to do something crazy. So I decided to go to Mozambique alone with illegal immigrants working in South Africa going home for the festive season. The one lovely evening we where having a South African braai and drinking rum, the next morning I woke up at the Mozambique border squeezed into a small bakkie (pickup truck) with a Mozambican family with my bag strapped to the trailer.

So the guy dropped me at the border and met me at the other side without even having a passport. The Mozambican man gave me a tent and even borrowed me his small bike that I sold to him back in South Africa. I lived on Macaneta island for about 3 days before almost dying of heat and mosquito bites, then we went to a small African village where I attended a funeral and the locals cooking me a dish. The next day Kito invited me to his home where I spend the night before organizing a taxi back to Johannesburg.

As appealing as an small adventure as this sound its quite hard being is such a poor county without the proper facilities you used to in your home country. Then you live in a tent on the beach in scorching 40 degrees heat and mosquitos eating you alive. Sometimes you wonder, what did I get myself into? But it was all worth it and doing something crazy like this just makes you feel alive.

Thinking back this was an amazing experience, since I have started me career as a travel agent I had the opportunities to travel to Mozambique again more geared for the situation. Then I have also travelled to the Namib desert in Namibia and had an amazing time in Mauritius.
