Overview
About Me
I’m Hermann, a professional dancer from Germany with roots in Kyrgyzstan — a small but beautiful country where I was born before growing up in Germany.
I’ve always been drawn to the unfamiliar and love collecting unusual experience. That’s how I've got into Breaking (most people might know it as Breakdance).
Thanks to Raygun — the kangaroo-dancer at the 2024 Olympics — Breaking got a wave of public attention. Maybe not the kind we expected, but hey, people were watching!
While studying at the German Sport University in Cologne, I challenged myself to go abroad — to Japan, the hardest program to get into. I didn’t speak Japanese and even failed the interview, but since I was the only applicant, I still got in. That year turned out to be one of the best of my life.
Now I work full-time as a dancer and instructor, and co-founded a non-profit that brings dance to children with limited opportunities.
One of my most meaningful experiences? Teaching in a prison.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Traveling has always been more about people than places for me.
The best moments in Japan, Kyrgyzstan or anywhere else didn’t happen in tourist spots — they happened through unexpected encounters, shared meals, and stories that made me see the world differently.
That’s exactly why I’m on Couchsurfing: I want to keep connecting with people who are open, curious, and up for exchanging experiences — whether over a homemade dinner, a walk through the city, or a spontaneous dance session in the kitchen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
While living in Japan, I got the chance to perform as a dancer on a TV show for Kojima Yoshio — one of Japan’s most famous comedians at the time — wearing nothing but some very eye-catching swim trunks.
What I Can Share with Hosts
If you’ve ever wanted to learn a cool Breaking move — I’ve got you covered!
Besides that, I enjoy sharing stories from my time living in Japan — from cultural surprises to little everyday adventures.
Being half German, half Russian, and born in Kyrgyzstan, I can also tell you a bit about a country that’s not very well known, but full of untouched nature and home to the beautiful snow leopard.
