Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to travel and I really enjoy meeting new people on the way.
If you are visiting Brussels you may always contact me and see if I got time for a drink or take you around the city.
I can also host cs-ers but I do have a flatmate so I have to check with her if it's okay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted quite a lot of people during my university years, and after that I've hosted people through globalfreeloaders. I've hosted people from Chili, Brazil, Australia, the US, Canada, Germany, etc.
I myself have couchsurfed before in South Africa, USA, Holland, UK, Spain, Serbia, Hungary, and a lot in my own country :-)
It's always cool to meet new people, even if it's just for a day or an evening...

Interests

I love going to concerts and small festivals. I used to be a freelance concertphotographer, mainly specialised in jazzconcerts. I still do photoshoots for cd-covers and promotional materials for local bands I know (and sometimes some concertphotography). So one of my biggest interests is still photography (in general). At the moment I am working on a big photography project with a group of Brussels photographers. We are making a citybiography of Brussels based on pictures.
I used to volonteer a lot for NGO's and cultural organisations. I had to tone that down a bit due to less holidays at work :-\
I also love visiting musea and art exhibitions.
I paint a bit myself, and I also play music (I'm a brass geek). It's basically just my way of emptying my mind and keeping my hands busy.
Every month I also host a living room concert at my place. Everybody is welcome to join that or if you're a musician, to play here.
And last but not least I love hanging out in local bars with friends, so this is where you can find us most weekend nights.
The perfect Sunday in my book is going to the market at the Midi train station, then browse around at the flea market and have brunch in that area, then wander through Brussels a bit and end the day in a good Brussels dive bar (and this in the company of friends).
Other interests: travelling (of course ;-) especially road trips), ice-cream, eating out, whiskey-tasting, theatre, drunk karaoke, biking, hiking, popular science stuff, astronomy and space, teasing my male friends when they are flaunting their chesthair :)

Music preference: folk, jazz, rock, pop

Books: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jose Saramago, Douglas Coupland, Bret Easton Ellis, Michel Houellebecq, Milan Kundera, Haruki Murakami, Umberto Eco, John Irving, Lonely planets, and many more (I read a lot, LOVE books). Just picked up a book in my hostel in Sarajevo "Shake hands with the devil - the failure of humanity in Rwanda" ... best non-fiction book I read in a long time!

Movies: Everything Almodovar & Woody Allen (hasn't really let me down yet), House of Flying Daggers, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Babel, Little Miss Sunshine, LOTR, Where the truth lies, 21grams, Carandiru, Kung Fu Hustle, Crash, Sin City, Love Actually (and other chick flicks ;-), Zack and Miri make a porno, Forgetting Sarah Marshall,...
