I want to change the world, or at least a small part of it.

ABOUT ME

I'm trying to do that whole golden rule thing, do unto others and all that. I really want to travel, but my current employment isn't the most flexible. So until then, I hope to make some friends and connections through here so when I do, I've got people to visit :).

I'm sometimes shy, and I hope that maybe as I travel I can get a little more comfortable becoming friends with new strangers.

PHILOSOPHY

Beauty is in the meaningless. The things that really make us think or feel have no meaning on their own. Our perceptions and weight we place on the events and images around us make meaning out of what we see.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was born and raised in a suburban town in Central California for all my life and it's instilled in me a insatiable sense of wanderlust. Now I dream of traveling to places across the U.S. and across the sea and I hope CouchSurfing will make that dream possible. I believe that I should strive to make my life as entertaining a story as I can and what better way to do that then get out there and hear the stories other people have to share while making my own.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Finally had my first CouchSurfing experience in June of 2012. Went on a roadtrip alone up through the northwestern United States. Met hitch hikers, old friends, and new friends. Drove up the 101 (a gorgeous drive) and the 5 (not so gorgeous). Visited Crescent City, Eugene, Portland, Olympia, and Seattle. Seattle in particular I managed to explore a good deal, and I fell in love with Gasworks Park.

As my degree might suggest, English is a big interest in my life. How words sound and relate and convey a story is constantly on my mind.

Video games are also fascinating to me, though I think people need to respect the genre a bit more as it develops into a definite art. I actually write a blog on the subject which you can check out at: thegaminghipster.com

Alternate music, classic books. I'm been labeled a hipster by many and take that classification with a grain of salt, even playing into it at times (my video game blog is called "the gaming hipster" after all).

Strangest music I listen to is probably CocoRosie, The Knife, and Sigur Ros. Though I also enjoy certain video game soundtracks, soulful music, electronic, folk, piano and alternate hip-hop.

Favorite books would start with George Orwell and 1984, Stephen King's "It" and "The Dark Tower" series, David Sedaris, and a wealth of non-fiction books.

I've won a national poetry contest in 3 different places and was able to present my poems at a reading in San Francisco.

Interviewed a sex worker for a book I've been intending to write for some time now. The interview was probably one of the most life changing events in my recent history.
