To meet, hear, see, taste, live & breathe the world!
ABOUT ME
Hello all!
I am an Australian film student from Melbourne, Australia, who is based for half a year in Edinburgh for my university studies and I am hoping to make the most of seeing Europe for the time I have here in this beautiful continent. I want to meet people from around the world, living and learning the different cultures that surround us. I need to make the most of the time I have while I'm here because who knows when I'll be making the long trek back! Life's too short to be relying on the future; have to just do it. No day but today!
I would describe myself as someone who is outgoing, open minded, easy going, likes to have a good laugh, bit of a social butterfly, contemplates a lot on life. I enjoy going out and having a good time with friends, wether it be at a house party, pub, a gig or dancing out until the early hours of the morning. I absolutely love to dance! I am very family orientated as I come from a large extended family and enjoy making friends from all different walks of life. Before moving to the city 2 years ago to study, I grew up my whole life in a country town 6 hours away. I appreciate that I am a country kid as I feel it makes me the person who I am, being able to get along with anyone no matter who they are and strike up a conversation with a stranger quite easily. I feel I belong more in a city but I think I've grown by being in both lifestyles.
PHILOSOPHY
Someone passed on the quote to me that 'it's always better to regret something you did, rather than something you didn't.' I think it's a fantastic quote as I try to take up every opportunity that is given to me and make the most of it by giving it a go. We learn from experience and grow as a person through the opportunities life presents to us.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
At the moment I am still finding my feet with all of this! Hoping to start my couch surfing adventures in the near future!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I am new to CS so I am yet to have my first true experience but I have a couple of good friends who vouch that it is a worthwhile experience to couch surf the world!
Intereses
I love all things vintage/retro with my style reflecting this at times. My record player is one of my favourite things, collecting records and putting on some vinyl while I potter about the house is bliss.
Being a film student I enjoy the cinema and all types of films from blockbuster features to independent shorts.
I also enjoy photography both analogue and digital. Always having my DSLR and instant camera by my side upon my adventures! I have also worked in the darkroom environment for a number of years during school with 35mm, Medium & Large format film. I can spend hours developing and playing with the photograph. The tangible experience of film I find quite rewarding and liberating in a sense. I love losing track of time in the dark room and getting lost in the process.
I am really into modern and contemporary art; enjoying spending time at galleries and exhibitions for inspiration.
Musical theatre and dance are other big interests of mine. I've seen many a musical and I don't think I'll stop until I see them all. Ever since I was a kid i've felt the theatre is where all the magic happens and it is to this day one of my favourite places. Throughout school I performed in a few different amateur theatre shows, danced Jazz/Funk & Tap over 8 years and learnt Contemporary and Ballet foundations towards the end of highschool (very minimal).
A passion of mine is being an advocate for LGBTQ rights. I participate in protests back home but I use my creative projects as a way of protest and awareness. I've created a student documentary and have done a fair number of photography works revolving around the issues impacting this/my community.

Algo increíble que he hecho
In June 2012 I participated in a documentary study tour with my university to the Kelabit Highlands in Borneo, Malaysia. I spent two weeks there with a group of film and masters students, documenting the community's culture and helping to participate in the cause to preserve their heritage in what will hopefully be their community museum. It was truly rewarding. It was such an authentic experience, building relationships with the locals, watching on and learning about their ways of life, trekking through the jungle to other villages and many other aspects that make this one of the most memorable moments for me thus far. It also gave me a taste of working in the field of documentaries which is the type of work I wish to pursue a career in.
