About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Preparing to visit Tokyo to connect with old friends, improve language proficiency, and build new networks.

ABOUT ME

Videographer and graphic designer from New Orleans. I'm currently working on my degree as an ECE major, but I'm taking a year off for a study abroad program in Japan. Despite growing up mostly in LA, people tend to assume I was raised elsewhere. For some reason, it seems I don't maintain a typical Southern vernacular.

I've taken interest in electronics, architectural design, and space exploration. Reading articles on the latest innovations in technology, and contemplating human social dynamics are some of my habits. Self-study is something I like to think I'm good at, but I sometimes have trouble retaining non-visual information. Besides that, I like using a skateboard to commute. It's a lot faster than walking, and there's no need to worry about chaining it down.

People who know me well probably think of me as talented – to that extent I'm not so sure, I've seen so many others create ingenious works that it's hard to feel up to par. Some people also think of me as bright, but if that's true it's with total disregard for mental processing speed. I'm a bit slow to pick up, average at best, but once I have it it's there. ^^;

Also, I can be rather blunt at times, but only if I'm extremely comfortable with you; I'm not terribly shy, but I retain my manners. Hmm. Anything else... I have the absolute strangest taste in music, I'm filmic, slightly vain, and I have an odd knack for attracting older women. That about sums it up for starters.

Cheers!

PHILOSOPHY

Live each day as productively innovative as possible, and for purposes that may outlive yourself.
Don't depend on already existing doctrines to determine who you are or want to be!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to support the CouchSurfing community and get to know people, both local and remote by going on excursions with like-minded individuals. I'm particularly interested in the local "party meetings" to kick things off.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted at least 3 people via this website. Unfortunately, the few people I've hosted were not avid users of the site and have yet to leave feedback on their stay. I have not yet resided with anyone else as a guest via this site, but I intend to change that soon!

Interests

I started studying Japanese and Korean when I went to a boarding school for the arts in California. There I was exposed to various cultures and developed an interest in traditions of the orient, as well as language.

As far as my other interests, I have an unrelenting fondness for cacti and tropical plants€. I often give them names.
I also enjoy snowboarding and skateboarding (vert), filming/photography, cycling, tennis, video editing, traveling to new places, meeting people, reading articles on highly controversial topics, vegetarian cooking, drawing, and I'd love to do more pottery in the future!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hm... When I got onto my first airplane flight to boarding school, I was ecstatic. To some, traveling by air is a fairly mundane experience, but I've always viewed it as my initial gateway into the world.

Besides that, I met a fair number of 'famous' people shortly after hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 (if that counts as amazing). I also vastly enjoyed going to Disney World with my aunt.

And well, for the kicker, taking my first cross-country bus ride via Greyhound in 2010 was unforgettable. I stayed with former peers in the LA area.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn how and why communities do things the way they do. I want to understand the ways in which people educate and modify each other, for better or worse. I want to see what makes the world tick.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my knowledge of Korean hangul or Japanese, as well as how spin a pen. I have my own vegetarian version of soba that I can cook without too much trouble
