About Me
Greetings Fellow Adventurers!
Just a newbie to Couchsurfing. Most of my friends call me Hextor, and I'm a Chinese who was born in Brunei but moved and lived in Malaysia since I was 14. Just a typical person who desires to travel the world before leaving the world. I worked as a Chinese-to-English translator in the mobile game industry for the past six years and resigned last year. I am currently on a working holiday visa in Australia.
I consider myself friendly, optimistic, helpful, open to experience, honest, casual, curious, highly adaptable, and a team player. There's a Chinese saying also, that I'm a "Buddist-style" person, which is the things-will-eventually-work-out type. But I also have to admit some of my not-so-good habits, such as being lazy and procrastinating a lot, having a loud voice (which I had loads of trouble controlling during my trip to Japan), and being a bit too rough as a girl. Although lazy, rest assured I'll still keep other people's places as clean as possible. Hahaha. But yeah, overall, I'm just an easygoing person.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The concept of Couchsurfing has recently captivated my curiosity, as it embodies the essence of adventure and human connection I seek in my travels. The idea of meeting new people, sharing stories, and forming deep bonds with strangers from different backgrounds thrills me to the core.
Unfortunately, I can't accept guests as I don't have a house of mine and I'm renting a room with others.
And the other main reason is as I mentioned above, where I would definitely like to meet new people while traveling and working in Australia for the upcoming 1 year.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have a random interest in music, movies, and books. I like to explore new genres and styles, trying to find something that speaks to me. I believe that music, movies, and books are great forms of art and can be incredibly powerful in terms of emotion and storytelling. They can be an escape from reality and also a way to connect with others.
Music:
I'm the kind of person that prefers the beat and rhythm more than the song's lyrics itself, e.g.: Pop, Hip-hop, or even Techno. I'm not a fan of slow, melodic, or classical music as I usually find it boring and monotonous. Instead, I prefer fast-paced, strong bass songs that make me want to move and dance. But sometimes it depends. Slow with strong bass songs could also catch my attention. I usually listen to Chinese, English, and Korean songs.
Movies:
Action, fantasy, and comedy movies are my favorites, but I won't watch historical films (as I might fall asleep) and horror films (unless someone needs me to accompany them). And I can't watch movies like Paranormal Activity and Project Almanac as they give me headaches with shaky camera scenes. I enjoy the Marvel/DC series movies, and the Harry Potter series is still one of my favorite types. If you say movies that relate to actors/actresses, I enjoy most of Jacky Chan's and Johnny Depp's. And a fun fact, I can watch movies in the cinema alone. haha
Books:
I usually read fiction books or novels, with fantasy, mystery, thriller, adventure, horror, and romance elements. Sometimes I also buy cooking books (but I don't cook), art and crafts books (but I don't make them), or even Chinese medicine books (when I can't understand them). Then why do I buy them you ask? Well, this leads to the fact that I'm a compulsive shopper. This is actually a bad habit where I love buying books, but most of the books I bought were still in plastic packaging. Luckily, this habit changed a lot when electronic books surged. So I tend to read novels online using my phone now.
Besides books, I also read comics/mangas. I even bought a lot of them (maybe 200++) a long time ago but stopped during the 2nd year of my degree just to stay focused on my studies when my grade was quite bad in my 1st year. And I eventually stopped buying since then.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Amazing? Ermmm... I can't really think of any.
But if you say crazy or stupid, maybe consider the fact that I still chose to travel to England when COVID-19 was getting serious at the start of 2020 despite all the opposition. (Although I had to pay more, I got back safely and healthy.)
So I guess that's a different yet special experience.
Or maybe considering the fact that I'm the only student in my college who graduated with a course they didn't offer. (My college took only Law, Accounting, and Management courses from UOL to teach in school) But due to some situation, I was forced to change my course from Management to Managment with Law. And although there were other students who met with the same situation, I was the only student who graduated successfully. Haha.
A new achievement unlocked was that in 2023, I've traveled to 4 countries (which was one of my to-do lists in the past). So I've traveled 3 times (Japan in March, Taiwan in May, and Thailand in Sept), and on all 3 trips, I went with different groups of people, except for one friend. On all 3 trips, she was also involved. She was planning to go on a working holiday with me too (if it works, that makes the 4th trip together), but unfortunately, she can't make it due to the education requirement and age limit.
Teach, Learn, Share
As a traveler, even though I've not explored every corner of the world, I have enjoyed the experience and time spent immersing myself in diverse cultures and learning valuable lessons. I'm more than willing to share my insights, tips, and local knowledge about the places I've visited. Whether it's hidden gems in bustling cities, cultural traditions, or practical travel advice, I'm eager to pass on what I've discovered to fellow adventurers like you.
Just as I'm eager to share my experiences, I'm equally enthusiastic about learning from you all. Every person I meet on this journey brings a different perspective, a story worth listening to, and a lesson to impart. I'm open to immersing myself in your culture, trying new cuisines, and understanding the world through your eyes. So, you are more than welcome to share your knowledge and passions with me!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Well, loads of stories, of course (as long as I remember the details, which is harder as my memory ages). It could be my experiences, the people I've met, the foods I've tried, and the places I've visited.
With all my experience, there might be some useful tips to remember and things to avoid—for example, Escalator Etiquette in different countries. You'll have to stand on the left of the elevator when you are not moving in Singapore and Malaysia but vice versa in Taiwan. (This is mostly because of the different driving directions in different countries.)
I have to say that I'm not someone who can really cook well, but I can help in preparing. Simple ones like cooking rice, frying an egg or fried rice, or cooking maggie mee is the most I can do the best. haha.
I can also offer help with the housework (cleaning, washing or carrying stuff, basically anything that a pair of hand can do), or even teach you to speak Malaysian-style of talking (that would involve various languages and slang). Hahaha
