ABOUT ME

I am originally from California, but lived in Israel for 10 years. Before living in Tel Aviv I was a kibbutznik in the south of the country on Kibbutz Lotan. Love meeting new people and believe that hospitality was the fabric of passed societies for a reason. Despite our technology and urbanity at the end of the day humans still need each other. Not a single human on this planet is 100 percent self-sufficient.
I now am moving to Hilo, HI to complete my degree in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Hawai'i.

PHILOSOPHY

".... No one is actually independent. This is a myth perpetuated .... and driven by capitalism - we are all actually interdependent. Chances are.... you don't grow all of your food. Chances are, you didn't build the car, bike, wheelchair, subway, shoes, or bus that transports you. Chances are you didn't construct your home. Chances are you didn't sew your clothing (or make the fabric and thread used to sew it). The world has been built to accommodate certain needs and call the people who need those things independent, while other needs are considered exceptional. Each of us relies on others every day. We all rely on one another for support, resources, and to meet our needs. We are all interdependent. This interdependence is not weakness; rather, it is a part of our humanity.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have proudly come to my seven year anniversary as a couchsurfer. I can truly say that it's changed my life. I've surfed and I've done quite a bit of hosting and loved every minute of it. My next step was creating my first CS Group: Vegetarian Israel which is celebrating three years and over 140 members.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The very first Couch Surfing experience I ever had wasn't through the website. It was my first trip to Israel in 2004 and I was hitch-hiking around the Sea of Galilee with a friend trying to find a place to camp and failing miserably. A nice woman gave us a ride, heard our plight and offered a place to sleep at her family's house on their moshav. We stayed the night and had a most wonderful time. I had never experienced such warmth and openess from a complete stranger in my whole life and it affected me deeply.

Very first time in Great Britain I got a personal tour of the Houses of Parliament at Westminster and got to sit in the House of Commons. Having grown up with and fascinated by Prime Minister's Questions every Wednesday on C-SPAN it was definitely a milestone and a pilgrimage.
