About Me

Couchsurfed with a LEGEND: https://youtu.be/caKgn9W-law

HELLOOO FELLOW TRAVELERS! :)

I'm a 27-year-old crazy spontaneous, full-of-life, life-loving, music enthusiast backpacker from Helsinki, Finland. Although on paper I may seem like a true capitalist, as I played it safe, studied and graduated from business school - I have to say, that I am more on the creative hippie-side. Aka if your sole purpose in life is to make money, we won't share the same values. I would rather die poor than happy than be surrounded by all the nice things in life and be miserable. What I value in life is new experiences, seemingly random encounters with random people - which you later on still think about years later, sharing, nature, art, music, being kind, the ocean, randomness, being silly and staying positive.

As I am a true extrovert and the more people I am surrounded by, the happier I am, I got into the field on event production. I love combining my two passions (although there's heaps more like traveling!) music and events and my ultimate dream job would be working at a music festival on the production side. :) I have being photographing for 10 years now, and in 2016 I completed a photographing degree. My dream is one day to tour with a band and document what it is like being on the road. I had also long been interested in video and hence taught myself to film and edit in the beginning of 2017 by documenting my travels during the 14 months I hitchhiked, couchsurfing and WorkAwayed in Mexico and Central America :) So if you wanna follow my trip, check out my YouTube channel ! -->https://www.youtube.com/c/heyletsgogetlost

When I am not at sweating at some music gig, making pancakes at a surprise breakfast party or out with my friends at some underground techno party, you will most likely find me in my home (I live with 3 other people because communal living is the best!) with my stereos on, in the candle light, listening to the new records i bought, reading a book or painting with acrylics ( you can see my stuff on instagram if you like: https://www.instagram.com/aleksandraokolokulak/ ). I started painting in 2015 fall and I am pretty super happy that I have found a hobby that I like and that I am seemingly pretty good at! It is so awesome to see your own progress and to top your own expectations... never say you can't because yes you can :) I believe that with an optimistic and entrepreneur-like mindset you will get your far in life and live a happy life. So never doubt yourself, try even if you're gonna fail, and get up again :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I’ve hosted once and have been hosted once as well. Looking forward to getting more into the CS experience :)

Interests

My passions in life are: traveling, music, arts and events (not in specific order).

I also love: reading, dancing, surfing and being out and about. Nature is pretty sweet and I would definitely want to spend more time outside. I like camping and love love love the ocean.

I think one of the best things about traveling (besides ofc meeting new cool people) is to get to see the local way of life. So as well as seeing some of the main sights, I would love to see how YOU as a local spend your time and where are the places you like to go to. Get the real experience :)
I would also not be anywhere without music so If you also love live music…let’s go to a gig! Even better if there’s a festival…!

If you would like me to host you, please write SANDCASTLES at the beginning of your message...I will not accept nor respond to messages that clearly are only looking to use our home as a hostel...Make you message personal ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC:
The thing I am most passionate about in life.... I love everything from trip hop to jazz, from deep house to hip hop, from progressive house to synth pop. A year in Mexico and Central America also against all odds turned me into a REGGAETON LOVER (who would have guessed) and the biggest Ozuna fan. The only things I don't like are: EDM and heavy metal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed volcano Acatenango in Antigua, Guatemala. 3913m and physically the most challenging thing I have ever done. And so worth it.

Hitchhiked by myself from Puerto Escondido (Mexico, Oaxaca state) to Tapachula, the boarder of Mexico and Guatemala (700km).

I also produced one of the main stages at Kallio Block Party - the biggest street block party in all of Finland (Helsinki). I can' t begin to describe how it felt like standing in front of 30 000 screaming people with the headlining act. A - M - A -Z - I - N -G

After nearly drowning while surfing in Bali 2011, and not surfing for the next 7 years, I finally conquered my trauma and started surfing again...Now, everyday, I can't WAIT for the next time I am able to get back in the ocean again (tomorrow...!).
