About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Conquering the world, one step at a time
ABOUT ME
I consider myself to be a person with many sides and even more interests; I have a more serious and professional side when I'm treating my patients, but outside of that generally I'm a very open-minded person with a very good sense of humour. I'm always looking to learn new things and to find out how the world works and what makes it tick.
One of the things that awes me as a kid (and still does to this very day), is the immense size of this world and the people and places within it. Have you ever considered what and who you could find in the deep interiors of some of the biggest nations in the world such as Russia, India or China?
We have difficulty just getting to know all of our neighbors and the places of interests in our very own hometown; now if you could multiply that by a few MILLION times and you would roughly get the scale and variety of the world. Hard not to be impressed by it, right?
I wholeheartedly feel that the world is an amazing place, and more amazingly the people within it. The more I travel, the more hopefully I'll become a better person :)
PHILOSOPHY
Here's a few mantras that I try to hold close to my heart:
1. If something is worth doing, then it's worth doing it well.
2. The hardest war that's ever fought by men is the one within themselves; in whatever you do, make sure you can live with yourself and the decisions you've made.
Because if you can't, then don't expect anyone else to do the same.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I try to meet up with travelers and CS-ers as best as my tight schedule allows me; a cup of coffee and some conversation while I try my best to show you the beauty of the place I call home.
I'm not currently in the position to host anyone at the moment as I live quite far from the city with poor public transport options, but perhaps in the future if things were to change you'd be the first to know :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Being relatively new at this, the desire to meet up and immersing myself with the locals on my travels is what brought me to CS.
My first CS event was a meet-up for a local festival in Tokyo, Japan, and it was a real eye-opener travelling and seeing things from the perspective of a local. Needless to say, this experience has taught me that if you're not connecting then you're not travelling!
The kindness of a stranger is one of the best things in life:
From a random email of a stranger on CS, it became an offer of a guided tour helping me to navigate the concrete jungles of Tokyo, the day ended up with an impromptu couch-surf at his house as the subway was closed and we were still only mid-way finished into our conversation.
We met as strangers, but left as friends, and that was the most beautiful part of the day.
Interests
This part is a bit tough for me as my interests are as varied as they are wide, but to sum it up, I just enjoy learning something new.
But if you want a list, you got it! (albeit very incomplete):
- The world and all that's in it
- Travelling
- Photography
- Medicine
- Leadership and learning what makes the world tick
- photography
- beauty
- festivals
- coffee
- traveling
- scuba diving
- medicine
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Things I've crossed off my bucket list so far:
1. Cycled from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Hat Yai (Thailand)
2. Lived in India for 2 and a half years! (my medical student days)
3. Becoming a certified scuba diver in Pulau Sipadan (Malaysia)
4. Achieving my childhood dream of becoming a doctor
Seems like I got long way to go until I complete this list!
Teach, Learn, Share
Perhaps the greatest thing I can offer is some medical advice; what I know I will offer, what I don't know I will find out and tell you.
I'm a firm believer that knowledge is power and there is no better drug than a well-informed, well-motivated and empowered patient!
