About Me

Our family used to have one account here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/mikeharding67

Some separate travelling (and not travelling, in my case) has necessitated two accounts, but please see the first for references and further (read: better) description of our house and interests.

My wife and I are active motorcycle riders, both street and dirt, and we're trying to impart that lifestyle to our 3-year-old son. I have a dream of circumnavigating the globe on motorcycles as a family someday.

We've both done a fair amount of camping and travel, and currently my wife and son are on a long-term European vacation. We are ardent believers in Rolf Pott's Vagabonding lifestyle and are constantly trying to simplify our lifestyle in that direction.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe traveling is the best window into other cultures, and I believe couchsurfing and homestays are the best way to travel. Through traveling and, by extension, conversation with travelers, we can really open up and better understand each other and our place in the world.

Also, it's a lot more interesting than Tv. Even HBO.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was able to stay with a Korean family for a few months this year (2015). It was an amazing experience seeing the interrelation of a different family. I was sad to leave my Korean omma.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a big fan of this simplification blog: http://zenhabits.net/

What I Can Share with Hosts

Local knowledge, motorcycle repair and nearby ride information, friendship. Probably long conversations and phenomenal breakfasts with hot French press coffee. As long as it's a weekend.

I realize that everybody's couchsurfing experience is a different experience, and is for different reasons. In that spirit, I understand some people are looking forward to connecting deeply with their hosts, and I'm happy to accommodate. But others have had their plans fall through, or unforeseen circumstances require that you find a place to stay and don't necessarily have the time or energy to share a bottle of wine and life stories. I understand that too. Please just be forthcoming, if that's the case, and I'll help you however I can. I've been there too.
