About Me

I'm from Singapore, currently studying in the US and I love to travel! I love playing music (guitar, piano, singing) and I'm part of a band called Tofu Bloc back home in SG—we do covers on youtube! I'm majoring in English (Creative Nonfiction) and Urban Studies in university. I'm really into writing poetry and short stories + everything urban/transport-related. In my free time, I like to urban-plan my ideal city. I also started playing Ultimate Frisbee in college; I love this sport!!!

I'm definitely a dog person, but cats are cool too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think Couchsurfing is such a great way to meet new people and learn about people and cultures you might otherwise not encounter on a typical package-tour travel experience~

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything blues, jazz, acoustic, slowly getting into more hip-hop. Really like John Mayer, Lianne La Havas, Tom Misch, Phum Viphurit, Vulfpeck, Sticky Fingers, Third Story, Charlie Lim, Jeremy Passion, Joss Stone, Paolo Nutini etc...

Movies/TV Shows: THE OFFICE, Parks and Rec, Bojack Horseman, Friends, Masterchef, Great British Baking Show, Dead Poets Society, Get Out, Memento, Interstellar, Isle of Dogs, (honestly I super love High School Musical too, call me trashy but it brings me good vibes and good memories...)

Favourite books: The Book Thief (Markus Zusak), The Shadow of the Wind (Carlos Ruiz Zafon), A Tale for the Time Being (Ruth Ozeki), Alice Munro's short stories, Chronicle of a Death Foretold (Gabriel Garcia Marquez), Frog (Mo Yan), Spatializing Blackness (Rashad Shabazz), Killing and Dying (graphic novel by Adrian Tomine), The Lifespan of a Fact (John D'Agata)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Freshman year of college, winter break 2016. A friend and I Couchsurfed through 12 US cities down the east coast from New York to Florida, over a course of 2.5 weeks. We lived out of our backpacks, travelled to each city by bus and met some really amazing couchsurfing hosts along the way. It was pretty wild~
[Trip route: New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Richmond, Raleigh, Atlanta, Savannah, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Miami.]

I've also volunteered for 2 months at a school for ex/at-risk street children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It's a place called Anjali House—check them out online, they do really amazing stuff to help fill these kids' afterschool hours with meaningful and educational activities! I was there as a creative arts workshop coordinator for kids aged 5-15. In 2016, a friend and I helped them raise 1200USD when we went back home to Singapore, which paid for uniforms, textbooks and other school supplies for the 120 kids in Anjali House's care.
