I'm an English teacher in China that uses a love of learning languages as an excuse to watch Disney movies. I've been in China for four of the past five years, living in Beijing, Haikou, and Xiamen, and now I have escaped! And by that I mean I'm taking a little break to re-learn Spanish and brush up on French.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet new people! Let's have some adventures.

I'm also down like a clown for some good ol' language practice. My native language is English, I'm at intermediate level in French and Chinese, and I can mumble some jumbled up phrases in Spanish.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like the Kongos, Mumford and Sons, the Kooks, Milky Chance, and Creedence Clearwater Revival the most right now, but I'm happy listening to most kinds of music and am always happy to find something new to listen to, especially if it's in a language I'm learning.

Ooh, and I love the soundtracks of Sweeney Todd, RENT, and Jesus Christ Superstar (I'm not religious, but it's how my religious dad and I bonded growing up and I love the songs).

Books: Stargirl, Chronicle of a Blood Merchant by Yu Hua, anything by Douglas Adams, anything by Chuck Palahniuk, anything by Kurt Vonnegut.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently read "Chronicle of a Blood Merchant" IN CHINESE.

It's an amazing novel that I read back in high school (and highly recommend), and last Chinese New Year, I sat down with the original Chinese edition and actually read it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Languages get me all hot and bothered.

So if you want to practice English or Chinese, I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can!

Likewise, if you could help me with my French, Spanish, or Chinese, or teach me a little of any other language, I would be ecstatic.

And if you have anything else to teach me, from fire dancing to cooking to yodeling, I can't promise I'll be any good, but I'll definitely be an eager disciple.
