About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Always trying to find balance in a world that is always knocking us off-center.

Also, I'm starting a podcast in which I interview couchsurfers about their experiences and why they surf. Stay here so I can interview you and we'll get famous! :)

ABOUT ME

I have one primary goal for my life: to have at least 15 spectacular stories to tell, and to live to tell them to future john's grandkids. So far, i figure i've got 6 or 7 and I'm always in search of another to add to the collection. We should hang out and you could potentially etch your name into one of my tales of adventure. LET'S MAKE HISTORY!!!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe we're free to do whatever we want with our lives, as long as we don't hinder someone else's ability to do the same.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have some experience surfing during my travels, and have hosted several people in different locations. I just moved to Cedar City in April 2016, so I'm trying to learn about my new digs and share them with anyone passing through this little slice of Americana.

Interests

Good beats, Netflix documentaries, sports, traveling, snowboarding, learning languages, tennis, sleeping in, delicious new foods, scuba diving, lying outside on nice days, parties, pacifism, trivia games/shows, health and wellness, yoga

Music, Movies, and Books

My musical tastes are varied and ever-changing. Some of my current favorites are: Alt-J, Twin Shadow, Beach House, Anderson Paak, Nathaniel Rateliff, James Blake, Ben Howard, et al

Movies: documentaries, indie flicks, stoner comedies, foreign films

Books: Shantaram, East of Eden, Blood Meridian, The Stranger, Siddhartha, Kafka on the Shore, Letters to a Young Poet, Ishmael, The Story of B

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a frigid February night in japan, I crammed into a sacred temple the size of a basketball court with 10,000 drunk Japanese men sporting only loin cloths and for hours fought for bundles of lucky sticks... and for my life.

Also, I survived a hitchhiking experience with the Japanese mafia.

More to come...

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a ton of interests and i'm good at a lot of things, but am great at none. I'd be willing to (attempt) to teach you any of the following:

-skipping rocks (the one thing i might actually be great at)
-snowboarding
-tennis (former youth camp instructor)
-english (former high school english teacher in japan)
-piano, cello or guitar (though i'm not particularly good at any of them)
-the traditional oklahoma redneck sport of "noodling" *
*DISCLAIMER: i've never actually done it but i'll introduce it to you and you'll probably never forget it :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

A place to crash, hiking and adventuring opportunities, good conversation, tasty beers and grub.
