About Me

We are a married couple, I am a social worker and Nicholas is a film-maker and photographer. We live in the tropical North of Australia and have an open house, to guests and friends. We have a pretty wild garden and have created an environment and habitat that attracts wildlife. We love the outdoors and animals. We are wildlife carers and look after orphaned and injured animals. We are vegetarian/vegan and live to be active, love cycling and hiking, paddle boarding and hiking.
We are also interested in arts, history and good conversations. I also sing in a community choir, which puts on some pretty good concerts and shows. We are both very dedicated to our jobs. I have worked for many years in mental health and disabilities and Nicholas does a lot of work for NGOs, and in particular environmental organisations and the arts. And we are really into yoga.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We have hosted many many people through Airbnb and young internationals through HelpX over the last ten years. When travelling we prefer to stay in homestays or in family homes if possible. Over the years we have made many good friends this way and really enjoy meeting new people. When travelling we don't have great expectations concerning accommodation, a bed or a place for our mats and sleeping bags and a shower is usually enough, as we usually spend most of the day out and about exploring. It's always good to meet local people, tap into local knowledge and understand new places better.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read mainly non-fiction, in particular science and history, but also like classics. We watch a lot of arty and international films. One of my favourite films is "Ten Canoes" by Rolf de Here and Peter Djigirr, made in the Arafura swamps and in the Northern Territory remote community of Ramengining, it's very witty and informative about Aboriginal culture.
Nicholas's favourite film is Solaris and book Rum Diary by Hunter s Thompson.
