About Me

CURRENT MISSION

When I grow up I am going to be a pirate!

ABOUT ME

I'm fairly well travelled as my (possibly insane!) Mum took my sister and I round the world when we were kids...and have travelled a fair bit as an adult, in Asia, Europe and America.
I'm studied English and Creative Writing at Uni...so it stands to reason that I love books...also films...I love music too, but can't talk about it with any sort of confidence!
I am passionate about good food and good wine (though budget restrictions mean I am a connoisseur of cheap booze!)and I love cooking meals for huge amounts of people. I can cater for meat eaters and veggies, simultaneously if necessary, and am something of an economic vegetarian - meaning I eat meat when I can afford it. There's lot's more...but I suppose if I put it all down here there'd be nothing new when I meet people!!

PHILOSOPHY

It's better to regret doing something than to always wonder what could have been...
Pass it on - if someone does me a favour then I'll do on for someone else...
Random Acts of Kindness - it takes nothing to help someone out for no reason, and means everything...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I travelled with my Mum as a child we were part of something called Servas, which I think was like CS, only less cool! But I really liked staying with people as we travelled because you really get to know the place you are visiting, through the eyes of the people who know it best...and this is what attracted me to couch surfing...the whole creating a world-wide community thing...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Like I said before, travelling with my Mum we stayed with families in the US, New Zealand and Australia, and it really enhanced the travelling experience...we made lot's of friends and despite it being ten years ago are still in contact with many of the people we met...

Interests

I'll give anything a go! I like entertaining...candlelit suppers with a bohemian twist! I love independent films (and blockbusters!), and almost any book...I'm an addicted charity shop shopper...I try to cycle whenever I can, but the British weather sometimes puts a stop to that! I like going out and dancing...though the weirder the better...the best night out I ever had was an Eastern European gypsy jazz gig in an old amphitheatre in Dorchester...and sailing...I'm planning to run away to sea in the next few years!

Music, Movies, and Books

I hate these sections...I'm very indiscriminate when it comes to movies, music and books...and love to be introduced to new things. Right now I'm listening to a Cole Porter, Gomez, DJ Yoda and sea shanties...and reading Utopia, having just read The Time Travellers Wife (fantastic!) and last night I watched Persepolis and The Thirty Nine Steps...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Helped to deliver my little sister...
Swam with a dolphin...in England!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm qualified (though out of practice!) in Thai massage...
I've taught Creative Writing workshops to kids of various ages...
I can make a few cocktails...
And say a few random phrases in foreign languages...
And I have a CELTA (for teaching English as a Foreign Language)...
And I am a first aider...
I want to learn...everything...anything...!
