About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be where I am

ABOUT ME

I'm English born and bred, but my heart belongs to Scotland.

I enjoy connecting with places (I am a geographer, after all) and learning their secrets. My list of favourite places is pretty darn enormous, but Lewis and Harris, The Black Isle, Torridon, Fife, Edinburgh and the Borders are full of very special memories.

I love public transport. Really I do. It gets you where you need to be, but if all else fails I find that passing locals are usually happy to provide banterous transport. It is my dream to ride a postbus.

I hoard: Friends, books, plants, memories.

Partial to: Scottish islands, cows, oxbow lakes, cups of tea, organic wool, onomatopoeia and the word 'giggle', mashed potato, trains, maps, second hand books, rain, cottages, cacti, bamboo knitting needles, letter writing, woolly socks, laughing and the smell of a peat fire.

At some point in the not too distant future, I fully intend to depart these shores for new adventures, but for now I am where I am.

PHILOSOPHY

Learn from everything and keep smiling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted people in the past and hope to do so again in the not too distant future. Otherwise, I'm up for exploring Edinburgh and Fife and the surroundings with whoever, whenever.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed in York, in a student residence with a crazy Québécois....it was an experience! Had some fun times hosting in Edinburgh, hitching to whisky distilleries and learning to cook South Korean food!

Interests

Geography, tea, the outdoors, cows, community....and pretty much everything else. Yeah, I like to be vague.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I like a bit of everything. Except biographies. I guess my favourite authors would be Stella Gibbons, Elizabeth Gaskell, Tolkien and John Wyndham amongst others.

Films: Unfortunately I have only just recovered from a horrific affliction of rom-com-itis. I enjoy period dramas and avoid horror films like the plague. Current favourites include Into the Wild, The Pianist and Big Fish.

Music: Again, give me a bit of everything and I'll be happy. I like Simon and Garfunkel, Bombay Bicycle Club, Ray Lamontagne, Blitzen Trapper, Alexi Murdoch, Jonsi, The Tallest Man on Earth, Bedouin Soundclash, Yeasayer and Seabear.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It is the simple things that amaze me most. Acts of kindness, charity and love.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a dab hand at knitting.
I enjoy sharing stories.
