About Me

My nickname is "Indy," and I live in Tokyo with my partner"Rei-chan".
Indy is fluent in reading and writing English, but his speaking is still developing. He's also currently practicing Spanish using Duolingo in preparation for an upcoming trip. We recently purchased a translator, so we can now converse in 150 languages.
We live in two places: an apartment in Tokyo and a wooden house in Manazuru, Kanagawa Prefecture, next to Tokyo. We spend weekdays in Tokyo and weekends in Manazuru. While the Tokyo house only has one bedroom, the Manazuru house has five, so we'll be able to host guests after renovations.
In Tokyo, we work as walking tour guides, and in Manazuru, we're renovating our house to turn it into a guesthouse. We also enjoy hot springs in Hakone and Yugawara, and spending relaxing days overlooking the ocean.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Starting 2026, I will be traveling around the world with my partner, Ray, for about three months.
We plan to visit Chicago and Miami in North America, Chile to Peru in South America, the UK, Poland, Greece and other locations in Europe, Egypt and other locations in Africa, and Hong Kong and Thailand in Asia.
I hope to interact with many people in the regions we visit and deepen my understanding of the cultures of both countries.

Music, Movies, and Books

I often listen to the Beatles, as well as Billy Joel, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Air Supply, and other artists from the 80s and 90s. I also listen to and dance to bossa nova and disco songs from the 80s and 90s.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Looking back, when I was a student, I often traveled abroad backpacking for 1 to 1.5 months at a time.
The challenging experiences I had then were thrilling and left a lasting impression.
I'll never forget staying with a host family in Australia, hitchhiking in Germany, renting a car in Los Angeles and going to a hill with a spectacular night view, experiencing toilet paper and various toilets without walls all over China, and tasting all the different foods you won't find in Japan. More than anything, the encounters I had with the local people and travelers on my travels are what make the biggest impression on me of each country.

Teach, Learn, Share

"Rei-chan" is an experienced "tea of the way SADO茶道". The traditional Japanese way of drinking green tea and its teachings is called "SADO." "SADO" is not just about drinking tea; it also involves how to sit while drinking, making the tea from matcha抹茶, looking at the teacup, enjoying the taste, and finally bowing in gratitude to finish. You can experience this in your host's home.
"Indy" is a guide in Tokyo. Tokyo is now a metropolis lined with skyscrapers, but he will show you Tokyo of the past, when Japan was still ruled by samurai侍 and developed rapidly with the Meiji Restoration, through his laptop screen. Whether you've been to Tokyo or not, this tour is sure to inspire you to visit.
