About Me

CURRENTLY TAKING A BREAK IN FRANCE! SEARCH "THE NOMAD FAMILY" TO KNOW MORE ABOUT US!

CURRENT MISSION

Seize the day and do whatever I enjoy;D
Collect stories and re-tell them in other parts of the world ;D

ABOUT ME

I am HiuYing, an avid traveller and hitchhiker currently exploring the world with my boyfriend and our baby boy. To me, the best way to know more about my inner self is to have conversations with the others. Not only to the people who know me well, but also to new friends who I meet everywhere to get myself inspired. I was an introvert but it seemed that I am transforming to an extrovert since I travel more and meet more people. Still, I am shy to start the conversation at first, yet, once I overcome this barrier(usually feeling weird when keeping silence for too long...), I can talk to anyone with any topics because I am curious about everything! I have an amazing talent ... that is ... I can sleep everywhere at anytime, even standing in a metro cabin XD I am eager to explore new things and immerse myself in adventures!

I was a well-protected Hong Kong girl but now I have transformed to a tough mom who wants to break through all of my limitations to protect my precious ones. I think I am loved and I’ve not yet experienced any unbearable hard time but I am sure my patience and toughness will help me get through it if in the future there is.

PHILOSOPHY

`Be happy and smile like a kid whenever I can!
`Expect the unexpected
`Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I was searching for places to live in Paris, the first city that I explored alone, I found Couchsurfing on the Internet. I thought that's the time for me to leave my comfort zone, so I had my first experience and since then I fell in love with this amazing platform which allows me to know local cultures more in depth.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

2014: Paris, Liverpool, Prague, London, Taipei, TaiChung, Okinawa, Keelung, Nantou, Kaohsiung
2015: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Heidelberg

All CSers I met have been really kind to me. They helped my travel go smoothly despite the fact that I always have no plans before I arrive. They made me feel like home and stories from them are interesting and inspiring. This good memories made me want to be a good story-(re)teller before I have my own place to host, simply as a return for the stories I've heard ;)

2016: I met my man through Couchsurfing and we started to host people in France since the end of the year!
2017-18: Meeting CSers in South America and hosting people in France

Interests

Though I am not good at sports, I always want to try some less popular sports, especially those only popular in a region. My silly thought is that I may be able to make some achievement before I spread them to my next destinations haha;)

I used to be a picky eater in Hong Kong. Thanks to the help of my host parents in my 10-week language immersion program, I became more open-minded about food. I am now glad to discover local specialities when I travel. After all, that may be my once-in-a-life-time encounter with that food!

I love watching performance which you can see people share the same goal and make every effort to achieve it. I joined drama productions and other activities involving team work which made me feel good. I really appreciate team effort!

I am also an independent person who enjoy explore new things alone. I don’t mind staying alone observing lighting designs and my surroundings or visiting museums. We all need a silence break sometimes.

What I want to do really depends on my mood. And I always accept invitations about trying something new!

TRAVELLING, above all, is what I enjoy most! After fulfilling my single-mum’s expectation, I will go on the road in 2016 May. Hope to see you on the road!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Live on Earth for almost 23 years!

Hitchhiked in Hong Kong! I spent almost 7 hours waiting for a 30-min ride. You won't know how good I felt at that time XD

Teach, Learn, Share

I am sorry that I don't have a place to host now, but I am more than happy to lend my camping gear to you and suggest places to camp/ take a hot shower.

I can teach you Cantonese and write your name in Chinese characters according to its pronunciation. I can share whatever I can: Traditional Chinese characters, Hong Kong culture/ traditional street food/ cultural difference between Hongkongers and Chinese/ traveling tips in HK and much more!

I am eager to learn different customs, cultures, language and food as I would like to share them with people I meet in my next destinations.
