CURRENT MISSION

Many CS people write to me and ask me about getting around (public transportation is practically non-existant) and what to do. You need either to rent a car or to hitchhike. The best rental prices I've seen are at discounthawaiicarrental.com.

To choose what to see here, Please go to tripadvisor.com, put "island of Hawaii" in the search box & hit enter. The 4th item down in your results is "Attractions". Choose this. At the top of the list are the things ranked highest by tripadvisor users. It is VERY reliable. It will give you so much info so you can decide for yourself what matches your interests. Much more helpful than what I can tell you.

ABOUT ME

Fun, versatile, aesthetic, generous-spirited. Love animals. My couch is set for No right now because I'm traveling in June & July. I am grounded, fun, sane, neat. Member of Servas International. If you don't know servas, go to usservas.org. It costs more to join than CS, but there is screening, so hosts are more open to visitors. It has been around for decades. If you join from overseas, it is much cheaper.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Shortly after joining, I hosted woman from Hong Kong and a man from the mainland. It was fun taking Kay to a luau and learning about her healing method and life in Hong Kong. Also had a great German guy who lives in Australia, a french woman from Martinque and a guy from Rennes. Everyone is so different and we have lots of fun.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - a great book about women in rural china 100 years ago. Hard to believe they were still binding feet then!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Parasailed in Mexico. (30 yrs ago) Moved to Big Island when I knew noone here and had never visited. Taught a cat to use the toilet. Pay $4.50/gal for gas in 2011. Voted for a Kenyan-American to be the Democratic nominee for President of the USA (talk about internationalism!)
