About Me

Not so much a traveler but more of an opportunity seeker constantly on the lookout for good excuses to live in new places. This gives me the time to immerse myself in the new culture and environment, get to know the people, learn the language (though I am terrible at languages), explore the region slowly and give back to the community where possible. This took me to Scandinavia for studies and Laos for work, and then back to Singapore for a few years running a non-profit organisation.

I am now cycling with my husband Heiko (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/heikor85) from Hamburg to Singapore! www.hh2sg.com

"The art is not in creating adventure and meaning while on an adventure. That's easy, anyone can do it. The art is creating an insanely meaningful and exciting life while living your day to day life."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a strong supporter of the sharing economy and collaborative consumption, and truly believe that the world will be a better place if everyone shared more and consumed less (the society, the environment, but I guess maybe not the economy in the traditional sense).

Now that I've hosted and surfed for a couple of years, I can also safely say that the people you meet on Couchsurfing can be pretty awesome!

Interests

I think cycling is an awesome way to get around. I commute regularly by bicycle, yes even in hot/crowded Singapore, where if you choose your routes properly you can actually get away from the maddening crowds and into some greenery. Much better way to recharge than squeezing with a million other people on the trains and buses! I also enjoy bicycle touring as a means of travel and transport, as the slow pace allows me to get closer to and learn about the people and places that I'm passing through better.

I'm an environmentalist at heart, and though I don't preach it I practise it in daily life. I'm mostly vegetarian (though if the situation doesn't allow it - like frequently when traveling - I will eat anything and everything), and I think I live a rather minimalist lifestyle.
