ABOUT ME

I am a poet who tries to see the beauty of words when none are spoken. I am a teacher who wants to always be first a student. I am a singer for whom music itself is an intoxicant and an opiate. I am a lover who loves humanity at its core. I am a woman who wants to always embrace the heart of a child. And I am an American who wants to explore the world.

Surfing when I can and LOTS of hosting (which I love!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed London in 2007, Atlanta, GA and Alaska in 2010. In summer of 2011, I did a small tour of Eastern Europe and had great experiences reconnecting with some of the amazing couchsurfers I had hosted in the past. It is amazing to come full circle and get to visit them on the other side of the world! That's what CS is about - travel and relationships built on shared ideals.

I have also had phenomenal hosting experiences, too numerous to list. This is a great movement.

兴趣

Everything that makes my heart beat faster. I love sand between my toes and symphanies. I sing and write and paint (poorly, but with gusto). I want to see new things every day, even if it means finding new life within old experiences. I read anything with words on it and am captivated by the theatre. And I love to cook for friends. Other cool things: standing on mountains, the beach at sunset, city lights reflecting in water, languages, people from different backgrounds, and the sound of exuberant laughter. Oh, and trees. I am obsessed with trees - climbing them, photographing them, sitting under them. Weird, I know!

Movies: I love Tim Burton and Baz Luhrmann films. Foreign films too (A Very Long Engagement, Life is Beautiful, Pan's Labrynth are favorites)
Music: Nearly anything (though I have rock roots), but I am slightly in love with Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Cold Play, Postal Service, Iron and Wine, Ben Kweller, Relient K, Switchfoot, and Kate Walsh. I love old Jazz and blues and nearly anything acoustic. I am admittedly not too fond of country music.
Books: I believe that words should be the opiate of the masses, so I am pretty impartial. I studied 19th and 20th century Brit Lit in college and loved it, but I also love modern writers like Neil Gaiman.

Stood at the top of the continental divide in Glacier National Park (Montana) with snow under my feet and wild mountain goats by my side. Sang Spanish lullabies to sick children at a medical relief clinic in Lima, Peru. Helped deliver a baby (breathtaking). Hosted CSers. Wait, ONE amazing thing. . . impossible!

Creative gourmet cooking; writing, editing, and public speaking; singing; embracing life for what it is. Oh, and I am learning to play the autoharp. This is a big learning curve for me as I have always sung but never played an instrument. I am open for any help! :)
