My name is Herminio Menchaca, I am from Mexico, an industrial designer but I am currently living in Kyoto, Japan, I am doing a technical program supported by JICA (Japanese Government Organization) "Traditional Japanese Craftmanships".

I like art, design, music, books and nature. I like going to museums. I am big fan of asian culture and also of asian food.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have heard about Couchsurfing for a long time ago and some friends have stayed with couchsurfers and they shared incredible experiences, it is always better to know a city by a local person and I think it would feel less touristy.

It is quite interesting to share ideas, cultures and ways of thinking among locals, I guess people who joined to couchsurfing have the same interest than me.

Interests

I am a creative person, I am interested on:design, art, fashion, photography, books, nature (I am a big fan of the forest) waterfalls, lakes rivers etc, it is nice to be close to the nature.

At this moment I am working with japanese craftsmen and Im so interested on traditional crafts which are so rich and wonderful.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am big fan of music, I think it is quite importat for your life, I have music for everything: "designing" drawing" "cooking" "cleaning" music.

Music: I am so into indie, rock, alternative rock, britpop, triphop, pop music, some signers or bands: Interpol, Garbage, Goldfrapp, Lykke Li, Muse, Blondie, JayJayJohanson, Björk, Madonna, Artic Monkeys, M.I.A., Sigur Ross, Benjamin Clemantine, just to name a few.

Movies: I like independent movies, art movies I am also a big fan of the cinema, just to name a few: The fall, Stoker, The Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, Big Fish, Amelie etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For me traveling alone and a backpacking trip has one of the most amazing things I have done, going by your own and travel in a foreign country is really cool.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think we you talk with someone you can learn so much about you and also share about where you come from, in this case I can share my culture and how Mexico really is. Wonderful traditions, crafts, music, food and history.
