Hello, I'm Mat. I make things for people out of noises, curves, pixels and ideas – usually in combination with one another. I'm self-taught, self-employed, coffee-fuelled and curious. I live in London, UK and have worked as far afield as Canada, California, Norway and Ukraine, remotely and in person.

I have a BA in Music Technology, a PhD in Music and Fine Art, and a decade of experience touring the world as a performer. I have been working in design since 2007. I play fretted instruments, produce recordings and write experimental music. My design clients have included Musicians, Writers, Organisations, Borough Councils, Venues and Universities. As a music professional I have worked for and managed booking agencies, promotions, artists and labels.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Travelling and hosting (where possible), meeting up and hanging out. I have also played a bunch of concerts for CSers in their homes or at local venues.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted and travelled a lot whilst on tour, and enjoy both a great deal. I love to travel with a purpose like music, and to share that passion with other surfers. kI enjoy showing surfers around my home town (whichever one it is at the time) and cooking for/with them. Cooking is something I love to do, and again, have often arranged to turn up to a CSer's house with a bag of ingredients and a recipe.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach clawhammer banjo and a bit of guitar, and am happy to share the skills. Also sharing ideas about creativity, which I studied to a crazy level. Sharing recipies and cooking techniques is always enjoyable. Most things musical are something I can contribute to in one way or another (but I really hate "jamming" - sorry), and teach/learn/share is something I care about deeply.
