At this time of writing (September 2023) I’ve returned to The Netherlands after having been for about 1.5 years in France🍷 and Spain🌴. During this sabbatical I volunteered💪🏼 at 25 places and ended up as digital nomad👨🏻‍💻 in Valencia🦇. Things I've done include revamping dining areas⚒️ and chopping wood🪓 in the South of France, mowing brambles with a view on 'Mallos Riglos' (Aragon), volunteering at Wakana Reunion Festival🕺🏻(Cadiz) and harvesting olives🫒 and reconstructing an acequia💦 (ancient old water way) with concrete in La Alpujarra. I used to work as a business consultant👨🏻‍💼 in IT🖥️ but in my sabbatical I started studying alternative economics and you could now consider me an ecological economist🌍 that is dedicated to revive the commons🫱🏻‍🫲🏽. To do so, I support the Post Growth Institute (PGI) (postgrowth.org) that works towards a society where money, power and resources circulate🔄 rather than accumulate⬆️. This might sound all very serious and business-like but the intention of this not-for-profit organization has a lot in common with the Couchsurfing culture🙏🏼.

For instance, the PGI organizes the Offers and Needs Market (OANM) which allows people, offers and needs to meet🙋🏼‍♂️. During the process people are prompted to think🤔 beyond the standard forms of financial💰 and material🚙 capital, adopt a gift🎁 mindset and show vulnerability😢 to express their needs. Like my CS experiences this results in true connections🔗. The PGI provides training🤓📗 so that everyone can organize these events locally as a way of reviving social fabric🪡 and making communities more resilient🫱🏻‍🫲🏽. Currently, I am orienting on communities/co-living🫂 spaces in The Netherlands/UK. CS doesn't allow me to adapt my location to 'I don't know yet, The Netherlands' without adding a city/postal address so there you have it 🥷, haha!

I also developed an interest in learning about permaculture🌱 and ecological building❤️👷🏼. Feel free to reach out at any time when you know or have a project✅ that involves any of these. Perhaps I can make some time to come and help while being able to learn.

I get energy from really connecting🔗 with people. Not the basic, superficial talks about the weather or keeping up appearance but really talking about what drives you in life⚡, your struggles😧, things you care❤️ about/have learnt/want to learn🧠.

Apparently (as people told me) I am openhearted💕, sharing a lot of my own experiences, insights, things I like 🎁 etc. and as a result of that people feel at ease with me to share their stories🔁. Which is of course what I am curious about! 😃

I open to almost everything and I wish to learn a lot. If I would have to choose some areas of focus it would be the Spanish culture, Spanish language and learn to dance. In return, I can teach you an Asian way of folding t-shirts, share my experience in the kitchen and I know a lot of useless facts.
