About Me

Exploring different cultures in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I travelled to western Europe for the first time with three of my classmates in the summer of 2014. As we had a very tight budget, we had to find every way to save money. Luckily we discovered couchsurfing during our planning. At first we didn't have much hope in it as there were very few hosts that could accommodate four people. But still in the end four hosts accepted us and we had a wonderful time with them.

I stayed with these wonderful people during my travelling:
Yasuhiro Chida / Omachi, Japan / Dec 2014
Hiroki Yoshikawa / Takasaki, Japan / Dec 2014
Reiji Nasu / Utsunomiya, Japan / Dec 2014
Petit Caillou / Lyon, France / Jun 2014
Yann Bezeux / Dijon, France / Jun 2014
Gaweł Jakub Szczytkowski / Vienna, Austria / Jun 2014
Cecilia Amstalden / Wurzburg, Germany / May 2014

Music, Movies, and Books

I like pop, jazz, rock, classical and bossa nova. Artists I like include Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles, Elton John, Eagles, Chet Atkins and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Simon & Garfunkel is my modern favourite and Tchaikovsky the classical favourite.

As for books, I like fictions by Russian writers like Cancer Ward and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, short stories by Leo Tolstoy and Frank Kafka, high fantasy books by J.R.R. Tolkien, Noam Chomsky on world politics and fictions by contemporary Chinese writers. Recently I have been spending most of the time reading history and politics of Hong Kong.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went to Cambridge for summer school; camped on a beach in Hong Kong without a tent in a night with heavy rain and thunderstorm; hiked the 50-km Hong Kong trail from 9 am to 10 pm; spent 3 days 2 nights on a sleeper train from southern China to northern China; cycled after midnight to meet up with friends to have desserts.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can try to clarify the confusing history and politics of Hong Kong, bring in some insights about this vibrant and exotic city and share with you my experience in the Umbrella Revolution. As a medical student, I am also very willing to discuss anything related to medicine. Actually I am interested in everything!
