About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Getting lost (but not too lost)
ABOUT ME
"We find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us. Tour masters, schedules, reservations, brass-bound and inevitable, dash themselves to wreckage on the personality of the trip. "
John Steinbeck - 'Travels with Charley in search of America'
Renegade slacker, image maker, merciless reader, relentless daydreamer. I also make a mean coffee cake. My lentil soup is pretty rad, too.
My parents are slackers too, and they decided they'd never cave in and give me an English name. You can call me Hoi, though.
Former graphic designer, 13-hour-day account manager, and now abandoning all of that and going back to school to pursue copywriting.
Finds comfort in good coffee, a well-made bloody mary, and pressing the shutter on my late 70's Canon AE-1.
PHILOSOPHY
Carpe diem -- seize the carp!
(Yes, it's a joke)(I'm not a fan of fish either)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have no couch to offer yet, but I do offer coffee, cocktails, suggestions of where to get awesome food in Sydney, and general photography nerding out. I also like picking brains and getting my brain picked.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfed in Austin and San Francisco. And oh, it's the only way to stay in a city!
Interests
Photography, general doodling, getting everywhere by foot/public transport, museums and other forms of nerd love, pop culture and internet memes, food (as long as there's no celery involved), and the occasional drink (bloody mary please). Reading good books, being a craptastic writer. Listening to awesome music, being a craptastic bass/violin/piano player.

Music, Movies, and Books
There are so many that it'll be impossible to list. But as of this week:
Episodes of the Office, UK version. Just so I can remind myself how fortunate I am that I don't have a boss like David Brent. Oh wait.
Music: Neko Case's 'Middle Cyclone'. (So is it Neeko, like that Steven Seagal "Nico above the law" movie, or Ne-ko, like the Neko-basu in Totoro?)
Books: John Steinbeck's 'Travels with Charley in search of America'.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Finished the Oxfam Trailwalker -- 100km of tears, sweat, muscle aches, and delirium in 42 hours.
Teach, Learn, Share
Happy to practice Mandarin/Cantonese with you if you're learning Chinese (yes, I know all of the rude words too).
Also can provide company on photography expeditions, and nerd out about ISOs/pushing film/pulling film/red scaling/b+w photography.
Countries I’ve Visited
Australia, China, France, Greece, Japan, Netherlands, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States
Countries I’ve Lived In
