About Me

Currently traveling and visiting friends in SE Asia. As such I cannot host at this time. Current home is in Boise, Idaho.

CURRENT MISSION

Resisting the temptations of complacency while making the best of where the winds take me

ABOUT ME

I'm a fun loving, caring, independent, and intelligent guy who's extremely hardworking and driven in life. I'm a "pragmatic idealist" who's always looking to change things towards a more just ideal. I love sharing great meals with good friends old and new over conversation, and was an organizer for a foodie group in Portland. I moved to Nashville in 2010 to pursue medical school at Vanderbilt, and did a MPH in Health Policy at Harvard. After medical school I moved to Boise to complete my residency in internal medicine.
I tend to fly through life by the seat of my pants, despite thoroughly investigating and planning things out. It keeps life spontaneous and interesting as well as keeps me busy at lot of the time. Growing up on a small farm has endowed me with many of the values and definitely the work ethic of living in the country, but I have since gained much insight and perspective from living all around the world, especially developing nations.
I spent two years as a CDC Public Health Associate in Oregon after gallivanting around the developing world. I was very very lucky that my life was a whirlwind during that time; bouncing between Cleveland, Ohio and many far flung corners of globe. Much my time was spent volunteering in different capacities, whether rebuilding homes in a Palestinian Refugee Camp or starting an HIV diagnosis and counseling program in rural Western Kenya. I spent one year on a crazy year long adventure around the world investigating globalization , international development and alternative economics, social movements, sustainability and so much more.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Helping offer surfers a place to stay. I attended the occasional CS event in Portland Oregon, and have found a lot of crossover with my meetup friends and CS.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I successfully couch surfed for all my medical school interviews, and have had an amazing time. Now it's my time to pay it back and host others.
I've hosted surfers for short and longer term stays in Nashville, and generally had a great experience. I've also had incredible experiences couch surfing while traveling in China and Japan thanks to the kindness of the wonderful people that have taken me in and shared their homes and lives with me.
I'd love to host or meet with couch surfers going through the area now that I'm stationary for a while.
I love to know what locals love about their towns, and the local spots and culture I wouldn't be exposed to otherwise. I'm a bit of beer geek, and homebrewer so I love checking out and discussing the local beer scenes and sharing great drinks and conversations with others.
