About Me

Hi everyone!

I'm a cheerful and easy-going girl who couldn't live without books, music, art and chocolate. Ah, and Spanish, of course :) I´ve tought it for 6 years at two universities and I´m still not fed up with it. What I enjoy the most in my job is that I can enthuse my students with my passion for Hispanic culture and literature, that it gives my an excellent opportunity to meet inspiring people and allows me to feel like a movie star on a red carpet, 'cause during my classes all eyes are on me :D

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My friend I used to travel with recommended me this site and here I am. Also, when I worked in a hostel I met a lot of travellers and I wanted to stay in touch with them.

The thing I appreciate the most about the idea of Couchsurfing is that you can get to know lots of incredible people who will let you in their homes and their world, showing the way they live normally, taking you to places you woudn't find in any guide or sharing their life and travel experience. Could be something better than that?

Interests

As I'm quite short, I ´m interested in everything which is similar to me, like short stories (Cortázar´s the love of my life), short films and web series. Even once I got a second prize for my own short story but the organizer of the contest didn't let me read it on the radio as the other winners 'cause it ended with a swearword. What a d*ck.

I'm also a great lover of street art and I consider my total lack of painting skills an error of nature. I used to be a quite good pianist, though. I even thought it would become my profession but I wasn't patient enough to achieve it. Maybe one day, who knows. Although I'm still dreaming of having a black grand piano at home and playing Chopin's nocturnes at twilight. Well, I would also like to be a tall thin blond with long legs, so you don't need to take it too seriously.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: When I'm fed up with short stories and I've got more free time (being a teacher has a great adventage: two month of vacation :D), I like to read a good novel, e.g. written by Dorota Masłowska, Andrzej Sapkowski, Bruno Schulz, Mario Vargas Llosa, Roberto Bolaño, Eduardo Mendoza or Terry Pratchett. Ah, ah, and last but not least, the one and only Henry Miller.
About two years ago I became a book reviewer which is kind of cool because the publishing houses I collaborate with pay me for doing what I love, but to tell the truth it also makes me feel a bit like a literature prostitute. You know, first world problems...

Music: I usually listen to Spanish and Hispanic music, mostly indie rock. My favourite singer is definitely Xoel López, but my heart belongs to Gonzalo Deniz known as Franny Glass. I'm also a huge fan of Caetano Veloso, a Brazilian classic, and one of my biggest dreams is to go to his concert before it's too late. Well, if you haven't heard about any of them, maybe Sia, Regina Spector, alt-J or Devendra Banhart will tell you something :)

Series: This year I watch more series than movies and I'm totally in love with Black Mirror which I would highly recommend you. Well, Vikings, The good wife, Narcos or Mozart in the Jungle aren't bad choices either.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A thing I'm truly proud of is my two weeks intensive course of Basque which is spent in Arantzazu sanctuary, far from any civilization and where I had to learn the language for 6 hours per day. But no, I didn't have to pray, it would have been too much for me ;)

Ah, and my hitchhiking trips were a great adventure too. Always when I'm back home I tell myself I won't do it any more but the next year I totally forget about it and ... ups, I did it again ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak Spanish really well, I play piano and draw in my own original style. I also write from time to time, mainly flash fiction. Ah, and I can try to teach you some Polish if you want to know what "suffer" means.
I would like to learn as much as possible about the place I'm visiting so be prepared for a lot of questions.
