About Me

Hello! I'm one of two other travelers. We mostly use my friend Rachel's account for couchsurfing and directly below I have her the link to her profile with our references listed:-)

https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/rachel_jones_2

I have an associates degree in Culinary Arts and I've been working at Michelin starred restaurants for 2 years now. I play guitar and I've been classically trained as a singer for 5 years. Before I started college I was very active at a YMCA camp that I've went to as a kid every summer and worked my way up as an assistant counselor working with kids of all ages. I'm passionate about camping, so recently I went on a two week canoe trip on the boarder of Canada and Minnesota and it's a goal of mine to hike the Appalachian trail. I have also worked for local co-op farms maintaining the land, feeding the farm animals and making fresh pasta out of the produce harvested for farmers' markets!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am currently on a three month road trip to explore the west coast with my two best friends and roommates Rachel and William (aka Reed). We all met two years ago moving into a communal house in Chicago. I am originally from Green Bay, WI. Reed is from Portland, OR. And Rachel is from Princeton, IL. Our goal on this journey is to better ourselves and our surroundings, and connect with interesting people along the way. All 3 of us are musicians and love to spend our spare time learning new songs to play. I sing and play guitar, Rachel sings and plays guitar as well as ukulele and piano, and Reed sings and plays banjo and ukulele. We are planning a little repertoire and would love to play some songs for you if you'd like:) I am also teaching Reed and Rachel how to cook on the road and we would love to cook something for you!

We would love to use Couchsurfing as a way to make new friends, share stories, and have fun along our journey!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music~
I enjoy listening to music on vinyl, studying music history and world music, going to concerts, and playing music. I listen to a little bit of everything and my favorites bands are constantly changing. For now, my favorite bands are
X- an 80's punk group
Slowdive- 90's ambient music
A Tribe Called Quest- Jazz rap

Movies~ I like important classic and contemporary movies. Anything from documentaries, sci-fi, comedy, or fantasy. Some of my favorites are The Goonies, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and Pan's Labyrinth.

Books~
I like to read and I spend most of my spare time lost in a book. Some of favorite classics are Breakfast of Champions- Kurt Vonnegut
The Grapes of Wrath- John Steinbeck
Jane Eyre- Charlotte Brontë

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I've done was help organize build a community garden in Chicago through my culinary school. We helped grow and harvest produce for local soup kitchens!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach~
We can teach you some banjo or guitar, some good jokes, card games, or even some basic cooking skills.

Learn~
We love to learn new things so any cool talent, joke, instrument, fact, language, recipe, tip or trick would be wonderful.

Share~
I would love to share my music, my cooking skills, and help create a genuine connection.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As a group we can play some music, share our experiences from our road trip so far, make some good cocktails (Reed is an awesome bartender), we can create some art, and treat your space with care and respect.
