About Me

Hello there, Aloha! 😊 Yes, my real name is Holly Joy and I’ve been backpacking from the U.S. for 1.5 years. 🇺🇸I used to live in Hawaii for 6 years before traveling full time throughout Asia and Europe. In Germany 9 month ago, I met my partner, Daniel, who is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 🇧🇷👫 we are 2 guests, but please don’t let that stop you from reading further. We are respectful, friendly, clean, and easy-going. If I requested several nights, it’s just to show when we are available. If you can only host one or two of those nights that is completely fine, just let me know to change the request.

We are new to couch surfing and would love to create a great first experience! We have stayed with friends and acquaintances from all over the globe, but never officially through Couchsurfing. We both are circus artists doing professional fire dancing, acrobatics, and juggling. 🎪🤹‍♂️ (we would love to show or teach some things to hosts)

We are also teachers of English, Spanish, and Portuguese online.💻 I studied English, teaching, and writing at Hawai’i Pacific University.
Daniel is also a talented Brazilian flute musician and guitarist. 🪈🎶 (we also would love to teach these things to hosts)

We are finishing a fire dancing contract for a restaurant and resort in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. 🇻🇳 We will be in Tokyo from June 10-21st.

We are both very friendly, respectful, creative, clean, and unique. We believe in good connections, sharing culture, and living the human experience in the best way we can. 🪷

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We joined Couchsurfing to discover more great people in this world who are kind, open, and friendly to share some moments, culture, and a home.

We are interested in short-term stays with hosts in other countries. We hope to create more unique experiences, connect with locals, and offer our teachings/services to hosts.

Couchsurfing and its hosts are also a great way to help traveling artists and teachers on a budget, so of course we are grateful for that opportunity and want to give back in anyway we can.

Music, Movies, and Books

This list could go on and on however these are the top contenders between Daniel and I:

music: Piano, Brazilian Forró, Classical, Rock, old-school Hip Hop, Reggae, etc.
movies: Harry Potter series: Avatar the last airbender
books: Harry Potter, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Circe
(we both don’t read much while traveling)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We went hiking in the Himalayas in Nepal back in November 2023, completing the Mardi Himal trek which felt like quite the accomplishment given the cold temperature and high altitude 😅 🏔️

Daniel also is an active slackliner who does highline (see photos for examples) whenever he can! every time I see the Highline, I’m amazed. 🧗

Teach, Learn, Share

My Bachelors degree is in English and Writing. I’ve been teaching on online platforms for over a year while traveling, and I would love to teach more English 1:1 in person with hosts who are beginner or advanced.

Daniel is a Portuguese and Spanish teacher online as well and would be happy to work 1:1 with hosts who are curious to learn these beautiful languages as well.

Daniel also teaches music such as flute and guitar. We have extra bamboo flutes with us if you want to learn something for fun! Right now he is also learning magician magic.

We both have curious, open minds after traveling so much. We want to learn about different cultures and ways of life in this adapting modern world wherever we go.

We most enjoy connecting with locals of the area to share life experiences and be present together even if it’s only for a short time.

We are also curious of useful phrases and words in the local language as well. Mostly, whatever hosts want to share, we are more than happy to receive.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Languages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese learning

Circus: Dance, prop manipulation art, and juggling

Music: piano, flute, guitar, percussion, theory

good moments, laughter, mixed culture, and kindness above all!
