About Me

I grew up in the woods, on top of a mountain, in rural Vermont where I didn't have neighbors and it would take me all day to walk to the closest store. I currently live in the lovely city of Burlington, Vermont. I love to travel and I'm finally making it a priority in my life to do it. I don't smoke and I'm not really a partier. I'm not opposed to it, but nightclubs aren't my scene and I usually gravitate to smaller get-togethers with friends. I much prefer to see live music, comedy, or pub trivia. I am an artist and make and sell jewelry out of real bits of nature that i find while walking my dog. I'm new to the etsy game, but I have been selling my jewelry in shops all over Vermont and the north eastern USA

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just like meeting people and hanging out with like-minded folks. I don't just see it as a free place to crash while traveling; I truly want to share experiences and make friends. I studied anthropology in college because I love learning about cultures and how people from around the world live.

Interests

Riding bicycles, drinking tea, wandering, people watching, trying new fruits, cooking, hiking, kayaking, singing Beatles songs while buzzed on wine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lou reed, Bowie, Elliott Smith, Father John Misty, John Frusciante, Gogol Bordello, Mars Volta, The Clash, Mountain Goats, The Cure, New Pornographers, Magnetic Fields and thousands more. I also love bluegrass and flamenco and tuvan throat singing Im obsessed with PODCASTS -- I subscribe to over 100 and they're quite varied too. Smart NPR shows and dumb comedy shows alike. Ask me for recommendations or just tell me what you're into and I will come up with at least 3 podcasts for you to listen to, I promise! I love travel documentaries and indie films. Amelie, Raising Arizona, Reservoir Dogs, Bottle Rocket...TV shows like Twin Peaks, The Office, Sopranos... My favorite books are Everything Is Illuminated, Ishmael, and anything written by David Sedaris. There are more books on my to-read list than I have time for.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent two months biking across the USA from Vermont to Portland, Oregon! While doing that I used a program similar to Couchsurfing called Warm Showers and it got me through that bike trip! The kindness people showed me is something I'll never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: i can teach you some chords on the guitar. I'm shit at guitar but if you happen to have one and you don't know how to play it, I can get the ball rolling.

Learn: always learning, every day. Most of my immediate focus is on learning Spanish, but I have so many hobbies and interests because I am a sponge for learning new things. I want to learn how to cook curry -- I can't seem to get it right. I always want to learn about other people and make new friends.

Share: a laugh. Stories.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share hilarious travel stories and mishaps. I love to cook and bake bread. I'd love to learn some new dishes. I'm a pescatarian (i will eat fish and seafood if no vegetarian option is available) but I would never let my dietary choices cause me to offend anyone or an entire culture, so I can be flexible if it's a problem -- just know I don't know how to cook or prepare meat!
I'm also a (self proclaimed) expert kombucha brewer, and though the fermentation process takes weeks, I can share my wisdom to anyone interested and hand them the reigns to enjoy the finished product later.
