About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Condenced: co-collaborate in the crazy, care-ful, compassionate, and colorful community of Creation.
ABOUT ME
I live in a small intentional community in Louisville, KY. I'm a teacher, so during the summer I have lots of time...spend it running, working on the house, working in our garden, hanging out with people in the neighborhood, traveling, praying, cooking, eating, and trying to find ways of sharing all of those things.
During the school year I'm at school a lot...grading papers like there's no tomorrow, running with the team, moderating a few clubs, and trying to learn from 16 year olds how to be cooler than I currently am.
PHILOSOPHY
"Go big or go home."...no, that's not very good.
"Get busy living or get busy dieing."....hmmm.....
"No fear"....no, there are some things I'm afraid of for sure.
"Just do it"...HECK nahhh...
"Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God."....hard to disagree with....yes that one resonates will within me as I typed it...I'll hold onto that one.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I/our community has a big house with plenty of space...people are certainly welcomed and invited to stay in our house. It's a poorer neighborhood in the city, and very easy to love.
I use short and meandering road-trips as a way to rejuventate my life, so I'm looking forward to having couches to sleep on a friends to meet...beats the heck out of sleeping in my car.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It has been blow-me-away awesome. I'm astounded at the level of hospitality that's been extended to me...humbling to say the least. It's also the best way to get to know a city and place. I just have one word to describe it all: Frickin Frackin Awesome.
Interests
Interests:
Spontenous Action--such a cliche answer, but it's really true...although it can be uncomfortable and even frustrating at times, I love the times when I allow myself to be diverted or sidetracked by some worthy purpose...and that side-track becomes the track that I'm on.
Relationships/Being--Also cliche, but still true. I love the mindset of CS because it assumes that if people simply are together (regardless of what they are doing, but just BEING together) then the world can change. Thomas Merton said something close to: "In the end, it is the power of the personal relationship that will save us all."

Music, Movies, and Books
All time favs:
Movies--Life is Beautiful, The Princess Bride, Hero
Music Albums--Blue Horse (The Be Good Tonyas); Being There (Wilco); Grace (Jeff Buckley); Impossible Dream (Patti Griffin) Pnemonia (Whiskeytown); Pet Sounds (Beach Boys)
Books--Once a Runner (totally lame literarily, but it fires me up something fierce); Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay; Jayber Crowe; The Last Reports on the Miraces at Little No Horse
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I went to Kenya for almost a month to work at an orphanage...rocked my world to pieces...will never recover from it... I've also have great experiences in Chiapas, Mexico and Italy. Closer to home, Madison, WI and NY, NY were recent trips that are still sticking to me.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'd like to learn more about how to "fix anything." Home ownership has forced me to learn a lot.
I truly love learning about the history of places...why this building was originally constructed and why all the streets are one-way except this one.
When you come to Louisville, I'll tell you about some of those things.
