About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to learn as much as I can about the world around me!

ABOUT ME

I grew up on a cattle ranch in northwestern Colorado in a small town. The ranch taught me how to work hard, and the small town taught me how important community is. I enjoy life and try to take advantage of every day I'm alive... who want's regrets? I want to do all that I can before I die... the world is full of amazing opportunities, and too few people realize it.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is to lead by example. You want a better community? Get out there and volunteer. You want to learn a different language? Then study hard and seek out opportunities to practice it. Instant gratification is ruining modern culture... people have forgotten what hard work and determination is.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I lived in Wyoming for five years, and was a part of a CLS-city group. We had get-togethers to meet each other, and set up a system where we would refer Couch Surfers to hosts that had not received any requests; we also had an emergency network set up to facilitate stranded travelers, as the Wyoming winter almost ALWAYS resulted in closed roads and people looking for places to stay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a few people this fall (2011) before my new job and my thesis began to dominate my time... I hope to begin hosting again soon!

Interests

I am interested in almost EVERYTHING! Outdoor activities include: SPORTS, hiking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, etc. I am always interested in meeting new and exciting people, and love hearing about their unique experiences and stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE books and music... I have way too many CD's and my bookshelves are always overflowing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I have done in my life is walk on the dry bed of the Aral Sea. While I was in Uzbekistan, I traveled to the old coastal city of Moinoq, where a thriving fish industry was destroyed in the matter of a few decades by human interference with nature. Seeing a fleet of rusting fishing boats lying on the sand dunes that were once covered in water was an amazing site that few will ever see in person. The Aral Sea is an example of what human ignorance - or arrogance - can do to nature's ecosystems. I am grateful that I was able to travel to this area of the world, through back roads and over dilapidated bridges, for it definitely opened my eyes!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure if I'm certified to teach ANYONE ANYTHING, but I can try to share my experiences with anyone who wants to listen. I've learned more from friends and random strangers than I EVER have going through school, and that is no exaggeration!!
