ABOUT ME

Documentary Filmmaker, Videographer, Videojournalist, Camera Operator, Fixer and Editor.

I have witnessed the political changes in Egypt through the lens of my video camera since before the 25 January 2011 revolution. I had over 500 gigabytes of footage of protests and clashes collected over a span of three years, beginning with the 25 January revolution and continuing through the current day--unfortunately, all this footage was taken from me by police, when I was arrested [Link AJ Article https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=74644156&trk=nav_responsive_tab_profile] for the only crime I have ever been accused of committing, which was to do my job as a journalist. Over the past five years, before and after my arrest, I covered current events in Egypt and the region with many major international news outlets as a freelance videojournalist, camera operator, and documentary filmmaker.

My previous work spanned many genres, and, as a freelancer, I had the opportunity to work with a range of news outlets, thus garnering a unique and flexible skillset. Most recently, I produced a mini-documentary called “Faces of Africa: Three Decades Under Mubarak” (https://www.linkedin.com/profile/edit?trk=nav_responsive_sub_nav_edit_profile) for CCTV, chronicling Egypt’s former president’s rise and fall to power leading up to the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. I’ve also gained behind-the-camera experience and videojournalism experience with freelance and contracted positions with Arte Group, A24 Media, Russian State TV, Egypt Independent. As an independent filmmaker, I worked on a number of projects relating to social and political issues in Egypt, such as the short film “Hope” for the Egyptian NGO Lekaa, and “Mohammed Mahmoud Street”, chronicling the events of November 2011, where security forces battled Egyptian protesters, and is now a living memory of Egypt’s revolution, with murals lining the street.
