About Me

I’ve spent much of my life on the move, having called 10 countries home and have had the privilege and joy of visiting many more. It has always been time spent with locals that has created the strongest and most lasting memories of my time as a traveller. Now that I find myself with a home base, I’d would like to continue the cycle and return the favour.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting people from all corners of this earth and hearing their perspectives on life.

Interests

I love the outdoors: hiking, canoeing, swimming, exploring... I love to visit incredible natural places in this world. I love natural building - building homes out of what nature provides (clay, stone, wood, straw). I also love how languages and cultures shape the way the world is perceived and interpreted. And I love food!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer; The Yield by Tara June Winch; Prodigal Summer and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver; Right Story, Wrong Story and Sand Talk by Tyson Yunkaporta and surely more.

Music: generally chilled out or acoustic tunes, but currently looking for some new artists to listen to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many wonderful experiences... Living in many countries as a child has afforded me some really fantastic experiences that I remember with fondness: Spear fishing from a dugout canoe in a lagoon in Vanuatu, Visiting aromatic temples in Indonesia, sitting still in a boat surrounded by a pod of pilot whales silently watching us from 3 meters away in the Maldives, visiting Sigariya (a long lost King's fortress with frescoes and mirror walls made from termite dust and bees wax) in Sri Lanka, hiking for 17 days in the Central Australian desert, or for 2 months across California and Oregon. Perhaps my fondest memory is designing and building a little cob cottage in California over 5 months.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn and teach about the natural world - the plants, the animals, the geography, how it all fits together in that particular pace. I love learning to cook traditional cuisines from all around the world, and especially love tasting them! I am very interested in learning more about sustainable living practices - food gardening, permaculture, sustainable lifeways in all their forms. I can crochet a quality beanie!

I have a passion for natural building (building dwellings from earth, stone, wood, glass, straw, etc).

What I Can Share with Hosts

2 x spare rooms with Queen bed in each (one with an ensuite, one with shared bathroom). Kitchen space, laundry facilities, quiet restful home to stay a day or two. Bird song in the morning, cups of tea and a shared meal.
