ABOUT ME

I moved to Malaga to work on a Masters as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar... and I liked it so much that I just stayed! I'm really grateful to the Rotary, as is the third time that they have invested in me. They previously sent me to Ecuador and India. They were instrumental in uprooting from Alabama and sending me out into the world. If you think that you might like some scholarship money to travel and study, then you should check them out... see if your philosophies and theirs match up.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started really participating in CS in December 2010 when I arrived in Spain. I go to meeting whenever possible. The CS groups around Malaga are really active and there's always something to do with someone fun. I've also been to some of the trips/meeting they have scheduled, like Tarifa, La Morama/Alhama, y Yuenquera. So much fun! I'm also thinking of a roadtrip (maybe with one other chica) to photograph more of Spain and some of Italy. I'd like to us to stay with other CS photographers for this trip/intercambio. Anybody have any suggestions for where we should go and what we should see/shoot?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS has really expanded my circle of friends while abroad. Without it I would have been one lonely chica solita en España. Instead I've met lots of amazing people who i'm grateful to count among my pandilla.

Movies: amelie, love me if you dare (the french name is something "juegetes infatiles"), moonrise kingdom, volver, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, todo sobre mi madre, diarios de motocicleta, pan's labyrinth (el labernito del fauno), the princess bride, the fifth element, fight club, 3 iron, pulp fiction, life is beautiful, chocolate, billy elliott, but i'm a cheerleader!, team america, idiocracy, etc, etc... I love everthing that wes anderson has created. i also love all things animated. i love to watch kids movies, like finding nemo, up, the little mermaid, happy feet, the lion king. yeah... i love movies.

Music: i adore anything with a good danceable beat. depending on my mood, you may hear some hot latin flavor or a soulful fiona apple. some of favorite artists are phoenix, two door cinema club, passion pit, spoon, jason mraz, jose gonzalez, fiona apple, regina spektor, minus the bear, amadou and mariam, manu chao, bob dylan, shakira, juanes, bob marley, kane west, jay-z, erica badu, lupe fiasco, common, blackalicious, the knife, air, beck, cake, nirvana, pearl jam, red hot chili peppers, audioslave, madonna, michael jackson, prince, the cure, the doors, mgmt, mia, los amigos invisibles, thievery corporation, etc, etc... (think you get the idea, i have a wide range of tastes!)

Books: i love all things stephen king and dean koontz. i also am fond a good fantasy series (think harry potter, lord of the rings, dragons of pern, anne rice, and yes, even the twillight stuff!) some other titles that i really enjoyed were watership down, the anne of green gables series, pride and prejudice and zombies, shogun, aesop's fables, the dark tower series, eat love pray, anything by david sedaris, anything by dan brown, the help, hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, and so on and so forth. :)

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

i took a 3-month road trip with my best friend out west one semester during college. it was just the two of us, her little car, and a loose itinerary. we made it as far west as the grand canyon and as far north as denver, colorado. i now know that new mexico is one of the most beautiful places on earth!

spending a week in the amazon with my school while in ecuador. each day we had little activities that seemed planned to threaten us with infection, bodily damage, or even death. i survived there the perils of anus-burrowing yellow jackets, urethra-burrowing-barb-endowed fish, flesh-eating ants, quick sand (and the swamp crotch that followed), spider-web-covered cliffs, and slippery slimy canyon walls that we had to climb without ropes or nets or any type of safety. i could have died... it was awesome! some of the best stories of my life come from this experience!

i would be happy to help anyone with their spanish or english skills. i'd also be super appreciative of anyone willing to help me with my italian, french, or portuguese skills. (the french and portuguese are nearly non-existent!) i would also love to learn from a master photographer or help a novice photographer figure out their new fancy pants SLR.
