About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel is when a new consciousness emerges. The bulk of my adventures are in the people I meet.

ABOUT ME

I believe who we are is fluid and evolving, so I can never say who I am, and neither do I care to as I do to "experience" who I am becoming. The only thing I am grounded in are my values. I know where I come from and what I'd like to be -- a catalyst for something good.

PHILOSOPHY

"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget."
- Arundhati Roy

"I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which came to me as blossom, goes on as fruit."
- Dawna Markova

"To be shaken out of the ruts of ordinary perception, to be shown a few timeless hours the outer and the inner world, not as an animal obsessed with words but as they are apprehended by the mind."
- The Doors of Perception, Aldous Huxley

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I repatriated to DC, where I grew up. Still, I manage to feel like I've never arrived. It's a feeling I'm chasing.

Interests

I love playing football and I watch what I can - champions league, EPL, bundesliga, etc. I don't support any particular team; I only like good football. I play a lot during the week - women's and coed. My position? #10, striker, outside mid. I try to find casual pickup games when I travel.

I enjoy subversive conversation on anything. More willing to listen and learn than to preach. Eager to contribute to the greater good. Let's engage in good faith. I previously worked in international development and now work for a nonprofit organization focused on care - the antidote to violence.

Other loves: My kitty. Coffee and tea. Food. Photography. Folk crafts, antiques, and vintage.
