About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To discover Barcalona, and all the city has to offer. We'd love to have some memorable experiences, and improve our Spanish.

ABOUT ME

We're a couple in a long-term relationship (3 years so far), looking for some adventure! We both run community projects, using woodwork (Hugh) and cooking (Ari) to support people who may be struggling in our local community. We LOVE food - eating it, cooking it, talking about it - music, and people in their various ways of being!

PHILOSOPHY

Here for the loving and the learning.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We love meeting new people and sharing stories together. We believe that money is only one form of currency, and are looking to be part of a world where personal connection is more important than financial transaction.

We enjoy challenging ourselves, and putting oursleves in new environments. We believe this is the best way to grow and to learn, and is an indespensible part of being happy.

Interests

Hugh: I am, first and foremost, a lover of all things green. Forests, mountains, avocados all float my boat big time. I love trekking up to quiet spots in nature and escaping into natural surroundings. Hmmmmm, what else? Whisky, poetry, cooking, handstands, singing, drinking a cold beer with a nice view. These are a few of my favourite things.

Ari: People say I have a lot of energy and love for life, so I guess that's true! I also really enjoy quietness and downtime, and often find being in nature good for this. Food is my passion, and I love nothing better than to see a group of people sat round a big table with many dishes, laughing, sharing and getting to know one another better.

Music, Movies, and Books

Into the Wild. Baraka. The Constant Gardener. Disney. Harry Potter, John Keats, Edwin Muir, Charles Dickens, William Blake, William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth (I like most people called William). The Cat Empire, Railroad Earth, Gillian Welch, John Prine, Bob Dylan, The Lumineers, Tenacious D, Flight of the Conchords, Eddie Vedder, Breathe Owl Breathe, Head North (my Dad's Irish + Celtic Folk Band!), The Dubliners, The Corries.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hugh - I hiked 1,000 kilometres in South America when I was 19. It took 72 days, and was pretty special.

Ari - I cycled round Spain for 2 weeks with a good friend of mine, on my incredibly heavy bike (hers was a proper cycle-touring bike), which didn't stop me carrying a bottle of red wine and olive oil wherever we went!

Teach, Learn, Share

We are both enthusiastic cooks (bioth veggie but not vegan), and believe how we eat is a crucial part of our interaction with the world around us. We also am a lovers of music, and would happily take part in any musical exchanges and singalongs.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking, Folk songs, peoms. A shared beer or three. Maybe a bit of DIY.

Countries I’ve Visited

Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, France, India, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Oman, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey
