About Me

Hi everybody,

My name is Hugo, born and raised in Belgium. Living in the south of Italy.

I guess you could say my current adventure is a bit unusual for a "touring" cyclist but here's my thinking...
I've dreamt of doing a tour of Scandinavia since I was a boy. Being greatly fascinated by nature, I love to fully immerse myself into these incredible landscapes.
Talking to people about my plans, of cycling to Nordkapp, most of them advised against it, also due to my setup, which is an ultralight bikepacking setup. Because of the weather conditions in Norway and the vastness of the country.
So a new plan was born, I decided to put a matrass and a sleeping bag in my car, strap my bicycle to the inside of the roof, take the dust off my old fishing rod(which I haven't used in 20 years since I was a tiny boy), re-strung my guitar.. and a couple of days later I embarked without hesitation on this new journey.

What I'd really like and so much appreciate from you is if I could park my car at your place so I can explore with my bike untill moving to the next place. I can sleep in my car and also have camping gear(since there was no need for going lightweight, I kind of overpacked), but would love a place where I can take a shower after a day of riding and maybe do laundry if possible and really needed.. but especially to learn about your local riding experience and maybe you can tell me where and what to ride to have the local experience. Of course maybe we could even ride a bit together ?

I'm the kind of guy who plans along the way so... we'll see what happens!
Anyway I'd love to meet any fellow "Couch Surfer" and share stories over a coffee or a beer. And maybe some info and tips and knowledge about your local land/bike/people ? I'm happy to meet you !
These days when I'm at home I enjoy some casual/sporty riding, alone or with friends.
I'm 29 and enjoy culture as much as sports, I love music too and also play some instruments. Used to be quite active as a bassist with our rockband untill I moved down to the farm here in italy, where I mainly just strummed some guitar for relaxing in the evening and recorded a song or two.

Probably forgetting something here... But feel free to ask !

Always work for Peace
Hugo

If you want to come surf my couch :

I live on a farm in the south of Italy, we make and export olive oil and for personal use we make a sweet red wine , all vegetables are from the garden and as organic as they get, anybody who comes visit is always welcome to give a helping hand, if they are into that sort of thing.

P.S. I used to have all verifications but they seem to have disappeared.. ?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet like minded people , to share cool experiences both as a guest or as a host, and discover this beautiful world we live on. I have a cozy couch I can offer when i'm not travelling myself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

first longer journey was a 3 month trip in china at the young and adventurous age of 19 with some of my best friends, we ended up buying a 50cc trike and driving alot of kilometers around china with it, we actually melted the engine by how hard we made it work but it got us what we wanted.

also some motorcycle journeys troughout italy , with my tent , I explored alot of Apulia , Calabria and Sicily.

first bicycle trip from belgium to somewhere in the swiss high alps, a whole series of bike adventures followed from that actually..

Teach, Learn, Share

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some fun stories, conversations and general things people share with each other. Perhaps even an Italian or Flemish session of language or cuisine ?
