Sobre mí

ABOUT ME

I'm currently a college student in Texas studying sociology. I am very slow to speak in large groups of people but with individuals or small groups I can spend hours talking about everything under the sun. I am extremely patient and easygoing. When I care about an issue I have a drive that compels me to go out and do something about it. But due to this I don't often get much sleep, I care about a lot of things. If I am not constantly working or directed toward figuring out how to make at least some small difference in the world, I feel I am at a loss. I think that gives a pretty good short description.

Intereses

I spend a great deal of my time volunteering. Especially with Habitat for Humanity, a U.S. based non-profit that gives individuals the ability to afford and build their own houses in 90 countries. I work very closely with my local Habitat affiliate and am the outgoing President of my college's Habitat chapter. That fulfills only one of my interests though as my primary focus is on advancing systemic positive social change. I spend a very large amount of my time thinking about ways in which I can impact the world so it is a better place for future generations. I do this all under sustainability as a theoretical framework for addressing world problems, and I could go on for a long time about this. If you want to hear me ramble more then you can message me or something. What else do I like, hmmm... photography, especially the photodocumentary tradition, learning, walking, reading, thinking, and a whole host of other things.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Like I mentioned elsewhere I work with Habitat for Humanity a lot. Part of this work has been organizing trips for college students to go and spend a week helping to construct a house. Previously the University has been running it but over the past three years I have been overseeing the transition of that responsibility to our student Habitat chapter. Two years ago I led a trip of 10 people and it was probably one of the best experiences of my life and consisted of conversations of such depth that I have rarely had the pleasure of experiencing. Last year I handed the reigns and planning of the trip over to my successor and she expanded it to 20 people (one of which was me of course). There came a point on the build site that week where I was standing on a ladder at the back of the house and it just so happened that every one of the other 19 people had come to that side of the house to help put up wall siding. They were all wearing matching shirts and to be up there, looking over so many people working towards the same mission of ending poverty housing with swing after swing of their hammers, it was magical. I realized at that point the magnitude of things we had accomplished over the past two years and what we were bound to accomplish the next ten years. I was not in charge of the trip but it felt extremely satisfying to know that I had left it in such a place that it could easily double and still be as impactful as the small group I had led the year before had been.
