About Me

It depends on who you ask. Professionally, I dabble in energy policy, renewable energy implementation, and international rural development. Ethnically, I'm South Asian with parents from India and Pakistan. To my Latino friends, I'm the gringo they have trouble categorizing. Overall, I'm a curious, gregarious explorer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been on here awhile but never actually had the chance to use it. I just finished grad school and am traveling across the country. Along the way, I want to meet new people and understand how they see the places where they live right now, since they know best.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

I used to have a radio show in college - Around the World in 80 Songs, which evolved into "Rock Around the World" - I listen to everything from KMFDM to Molotov to Zemfira to Nortec Collective to Röyksopp to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and beyond.

Movies:

I haven't watched all that many recently, but am a big fan of anything by Wes Anderson, good sci-fi (District 9, Brazil, Gattaca, etc.), documentaries on pretty much anything, comedies; I'm pretty open-minded. Not a huge fan of Bollywood but I'll tolerate it.

Books:

I've read tons of classics but haven't read much fiction lately. Right now, I'm reading "Grit" by Angela Duckworth and "The 4 Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferriss is next.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh man. That's tough. And I feel like it's easier for someone else to decide for you. Personally, learning cricket well enough to compete in a league where I was the only American player was pretty cool.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Spanish and photography, a bit of North Indian cooking, and I can teach you how to make an authentic guacamole. I'm open to learning pretty much anything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hmmm. I can cook a bit. Photograph a bit. And I'm pretty good at holding up my end of a conversation. I listen well, but can also talk (nearly) forever about (nearly) anything.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Egypt, England, India, Italy, Mexico, United States
