About Me

I'm an active, outdoorsy person that wants to see as much of the world as possible. Couchsurfing helps make this goal a little more attainable and I get to meet amazing people along the way! I've been a member of this community since 2015 and am returning after a bit of a hiatus. I began couchsurfing in a really pivotal time of my life and as I relocate to another city, I look forward to coming back to this inspiring and welcoming community.

Although I am getting swept up in the hustle and bustle of career advancement, I still have a passion for yoga and farming.
My family had to abandon their coffee farm in West Africa when the Liberian civil war broke out and after seeing all of his kids off to college, my dad has retired and set out to go back home. I am helping restart the farm in Liberia, with every intention to make it self-sustainable. I couldn't be more excited! I traveled to Costa Rica many years ago to learn about permaculture and coffee farming in preparation. It was a beautiful and very welcoming country. I recommend anyone who has the opportunity to visit, to go. I did the same thing in Colombia and fell in love with that country! It is hard not to. The coffee region there is amazing and ideal for continuous harvesting.

I hope to meet you soon :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I Couchsurf to meet awesome people while traveling who share my passion for old fashioned hospitality and friendliness. I love to travel, but even more than the beautiful scenery, I enjoy talking to locals and learning about perspectives that are new to me. I'm constantly on a journey to learn more about the world around me and I think there's no better way to do that than to talk and travel.

Interests

Biking is my JAM. I love it! The world slows down. You can actually take your time to see what you're passing on your route and it forces me to make more conscious decisions about my travel and consumption.
I love gardening. What did you really expect with a name like "Hyacinth?"
I'm also a regular practicer of yoga. I do it with mental and physical balance in mind as the goal. I like the elusive nature of yoga and the fact that I feel I will never be a master of it. It gives me something to constantly strive for.
I'm also into soap making and handcrafted bodycare in general.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything with Denzel Washington in it! I also find Will Ferrell and Fred Armisen insanely entertaining.
I sincerely dig all types of music and frequent Suwannee Music Campgrounds in North Florida (hosts of Hulaween, Branquility, and Bear Creek.)
I'm constantly seeking new experiences. Whether this comes in the form of a new-to-me band or food is irrelevant to me, but that's why I place so much emphasis on old fashioned friendliness and meeting new people because with new relationships comes the opportunity to be exposed to new things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Songkran in Thailand (the world's largest water balloon fight in celebration of New Year)

Teach, Learn, Share

A basic recipe for a loaf of sourdough bread is what they call the "3-2-1":
3 cups of flour
2 cups of water
1 cup of sourdough starter
use your senses to guide you in tweaking the amounts so that it looks right to you.
Sourdough is alive and it manifests itself differently in different locations and at different times of the year, so it really is less empirical than you might think. The measurements are just a guide to the ratio of ingredients. Give the dough time to ferment, shape it and let it "proof" in the pan. Bake it and enjoy :)
