About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Get a better understanding of languages, cultures and people. And, maybe, love them.
ABOUT ME
We're both French, and enjoying Lisbon till next summer thanks to the Erasmus program (Ingrid is a student, Julie is not).
Ingrid: I'm a young hybrid eager to live life to the fullest: being curious of the world around me, getting to know people and how they live, getting inspired, having fun with my girlfriend, my friends, my books, my basketball team, my meals.
Julie: I’m a 25 year-old girl whose biggest dream is to translate the next Michel Gondry movies from any place in the world (or to work for every single film festival in the world, I haven't made up my mind yet). But for now I’m struggling to work on cheesy soap operas or shitty documentaries.
PHILOSOPHY
Ingrid: I would be a Sartrian existentialist: each human owns their destiny. No excuse, we must live our lives.
Julie: Live your dreams, except for that one about being eaten by the giant spider!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We first registered here to plan a trip to the US, as we found couchsurfing as a sweet option for broke people like us. From then on, we've also had the opportunity to host some pretty wonderful people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Our first trip in the US, with 3 different couch hosts was a great experience.
Back in France, we offered our couch for travellers to sleep on, and were lucky enough to meet only great guests.
Now that we live in Portugal, we keep on hosting people, and look forward to being hosted again here and there.
Interests
Ingrid: I love books, when they entertain and inspire me. "On the Road" by Kerouac or "1984" by Orwell would be good examples.
I love languages and the way they open me to new cultures and new ways of thinking. Particularly in love with English and Portuguese.
I love NBA basketball for the live emotion at night. Go Spurs Go !
Julie: I’m very interested in languages too, and how one can transcribe ideas and idioms from one language to another.
I love to bother people with spelling or grammatical stuff.
And I love and admire everything related to any kind of art.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: many things from Classic Rock (Led Zep, Jimi Hendrix) to Reggae Music (Bob Marley) and Blues (Lightin' Hopkins, Robert Johnson), with a little new French Music (Les Ogres de Barback) and other stuff (Kusturica, Mika, Serge Gainsbourg...).
Movies: anything, serious or entertaining, that's not too stupid. We like good screenplays.
Books: Kerouac, Orwell, Auster, Saint-Exupéry, Hugo, Maupin, Saramago, Carvalho, Monteiro...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ingrid: I went down the Grand Canyon on a 3-day trip along the Colorado River.
And then a 12-day trip on the San Juan River (Utah) for a river-guiding class.
Amazing.
Julie: The Grand Canyon under a thick layer of snow. May sound a bit cheesy, but it was actually one of the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
Teach, Learn, Share
Ingrid: I'm a student myself, but I can teach some French, English or Portuguese, according to the audience, or a little literature in any of these languages.
Julie: I'd love to share ideas about languages (again!) and opinions about the movies I've seen, those I want to see and those I don't know anything about.
