About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Appreciating the little things in life..
PHILOSOPHY
"I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance of energy which found no outlet in a quiet life." -Leo Tolstoy "Family Happiness"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
My wife and I moved to Milwaukie (it's about 10 minutes from downtown Portland) in June of 2012. We have a house with an amazing backyard and a spare bedroom with plenty of room for your dog and gear. We both love to eat local and cook, and always have a decent amount of good food from the local farmers market. This spring we started brewing our own beer, and got a few chickens for fresh eggs!
The Portland area has an INCREDIBLE public transit system. Check out Trimet's MAX map, you can see the stops in the area to help make your visit that much more awesome.
There are parks and shopping nearby, as well as some awesome little bars and restaurants a few miles down the road. Multnomah Falls (probably one of the most beautiful places you could ever visit) is only 30 miles from us, and we generally hike it every few weeks.
There are some beautiful rivers nearby that are great for kayaking or salmon fishing as well.
We've met such great people on couchsurfing and would love to continue the tradition since moving to the area.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent a winter out in the Bering Sea. In the middle of January, we were hit by an Artic Hurricane and watched as the temperature dropped to -30. Our boat accumulated so much ice that we all had to go outside and beat the ice off with sledgehammer handles in 30' seas.
It takes an experience like that to realize the indifference of the ocean.
