About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to continue living free at all costs and to help where i'm able. to see. to explore. to respect. to inspire.

ABOUT ME

i spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME in front of the computer - period. when it's winter, i can most likely be found snowboarding.

been sober since 1997. i'm happy, content and enjoy the various challenges life hurls my way. travel is in my genes and i'm having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that i recently purchased a house - oct 2005

PHILOSOPHY

twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. so throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. explore, dream, discover.

-mark twain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

sadly, i'm reinventing myself which sees me away from my humble abode and the lovely couch in the picture. when life returns to normal, i'll update this and be back in action. stay tuned.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

gary from Walkingman.org swung through new zealand a few years back and i made it a point to get in touch with him and invite him over for dinner, a shower and his own clean bed for the evening. he inspired me to get out even more than i already did and i will continue to aim for that.

i try my best to offer up my couches whenever i'm able. i enjoy all you visitors from around the world and your stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: i grew up with rock music. still like it. now though, my tastes stray toward the eclectic. if its got energy, groove and the singer (if there is one) doesn't sound like he's in a corporate boy band...i might like it. most stuff i like, you aren't likely to hear on the radio.

FILMS: shawshank redemption, world's fastest indian, baraka, exorcist, 2001 a space odyssey, sling blade, erin brocovitch, BBC's Planet Earth, there will be blood, cloverfield, travel/adventure documentaries of all sorts.

BOOKS: anything educational in nature as i have a curious mind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i couldn't choose just one, so i'll share a couple...

i've driven a mac track (tracked ford truck) across the frozen antarctic ocean. talk about surreal...

i've walked across a crevasse, had the snow fall away and open up a hole behind me and walked away to tell the story. never deviate from the marked path in Antarctica - EVER!

while down in Antarctica, i've spoken via telephone call to an astronaut in the international space station from the Crary Science Lab. once again, surreal...

lastly, i've heard a machine gun fired in the office next to mine while working on "Lord of the Rings".

cut off nearly a 3 foot long pony tail and donated it to kids with cancer. felt good to have it go to a worthy cause such as that.

snowboarded Antarctica two times on different occasions ... the first time was behind Shackleton's Hut. the second time was at the kiwi ski field, which as i understand it - has been dismantled and taken away.

had the opportunity to be photographed holding not one, but three academy award gold statues. they're heavy as crap!

lastly, if you look carefully...somewhere burried deep in the extra features of the "KING KONG" extended DVD, you'll see a short interview with me as i laugh at the complexity of the shots we had to work on.

Teach, Learn, Share

i am web savvy and come from a graphic design background. i build basic websites from time to time and love to share knowledge. need a blog set up, don't know how...just ask, it's easy.

i'm also looking for someone to teach me to sew...yes, you read that correctly. i purchased a new sewing machine but have no clue how to operate the thing. haven't had the time to crack the manual as yet.
