About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Retired Scottish veterinarian - I retired in September 2018 and sold my house - I've been full time traveling since then.

ABOUT ME

I am a young at heart 60 year old Scottish vet who after 30 years of making cats and dogs better has decided to see some different parts of the world and to meet the people who live there.

I have 2 great daughters Tarin 33 and Faith 32 who have grown up oh so quick - but that allows me now to free myself up to do what I have always dreamed of - to strap on a backpack and go!

I travelled round the world in 2008-9 and had some fantastic experiences - meeting many great people and experiencing amazing culture. After 3 years working back in the UK in 2013 I strapped on the backpack and headed to Cuba, Central America and Colombia. for a 7 month break. I did the same again in early 2015 visiting Indonesia, Borneo, Myanmar, India and Nepal. 2016 saw me heading to East Africa - an exciting 4 month trip from Uganda through Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique ending up in South Africa. In 2017 it was back to the Middle East and Asia - ending up with a fantastic 5 weeks in Japan. October 17 saw me heading down under for some hiking in New Zealand and Tasmania
Retired in 2018 and have been all over the world since then spending a lot of time in the Americas - last year I hiked over 1000 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail

PHILOSOPHY

Switch off the TV and live your life!!

Share your life with other people, strive to give a little bit back - live without prejudice - treat people how you would like to be treated yourself

Apaga la tele y vive tu vida!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am from Edinburgh so am happy to advise anyone who wants to visit Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Unfortunately I can't host as I have no house but I can certainly help anyone who comes to the UK and would be happy to meet if I am there.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met many couchsurfers on my travels and have really enjoyed the cultural exchange and the pride that people have in their home cities - it's a great way to feel at home in a place that is far from my own home. Thanks to all the people who have hosted me and I look forward to meeting many new friends on my next travels

Interests

Many and varied - I play golf squash and tennis but my true love is long distance hiking - I've done long trails in Scotland Nepal New Zealand and this summer will complete the Pacific Crest Trail in the USA
Love all the usual things ie movies eating out etc but I love more than anything else going to new places, cultural diversity and eating and drinking with new found friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked the length - 900 miles - of New Zealand's South Island in 2018- a powerful grounding experience that stretched my physical and mental capabilites, took me back to basics and taught me a lot...

Teach, Learn, Share

My skill is being a vet...it being a vocational career I have done nothing else - sometimes I am envious of people who have had many jobs - but I know I have a special privilege to help animals. I would like to continue to do that - I am passionate about welfare and helping people to look after their animals in a better way would give me great satisfaction.
